So sorry for the loss of your older cat you must be devastated. I can understand how worried you must be feeling about your younger cat. My situation was slightly different i was left with a grieving dog after she lost her soul mate. I did everything i could to try and ease her pain that she was suffering but it was very heartbreaking to see her so down.i gave her lots of love and try to take her mind off things but it was very difficult. She was 13 so she wasn't a spring chicken any way. We took her to the vets and they put her on antidepressants which really helped but she had a quite a few health issues going on. I'm not really sure what advice i can give you other than perhaps paying your vet a visit and asking for their advice they maybe able to prescribe some medication short term until things start to get a little easier. I tried the adaptil plug in and spray but i can't really say it worked that well. The other option would be to introduce another feline friend it wasn't an option for me as my dog was nearly bind and deaf and i didn't think she would able to cope i certainly couldn't have coped because it took a lot of time and care looking after my dog and i couldn't put the time in especially with work as well .
I hope things start to settle down for you sorry i couldn't really give you the advice you were hoping for. Keep us informed how things go :-)

Glad to hear you have a diagnosis & hopefully a full solution, chocolatecat. So pleased to hear Tilda has stopped over-grooming
