My cat who is 2yrs old, keeps occasionally scooting his bum on the carpet, he's quite long hair so not sure if he has an itch and he's lazy.. He's up to date with worming etc.. Anything else to advise before I go to vets? Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum. As you can see I have 7 cats. Bramble sometimes scoots her bum on the carpet - she is long haired like your cat and I think they do it when they have recently used the litter tray and feel that there's a bit left on their bottom - well, that's my theory! If your cat persists with this behaviour it would be worth a mention to your vet next time you visit.

if it's not worms, it could be something as simple as a hair pointing inwards and tickling his bum, or he could have a bit of faeces stuck near him bum (or not quite out of it). sorry, it's gross but it's often the case. Better than worms at least!

Rosa keeps getting poop stuck in the hair on her back legs somehow, so it's something I have come to get used to... Even a small bit will cause her to scoot and/or spend almost an entire walk walking as though she's trying to go to the toilet, so walking along in the pooping position. It would be hilarious if I didn't have to clean my dogs bum when I got home. The things we do for our pets... But yeah, she also once had a hair growing in towards her... Bum hole... And that seemed to make her scoot a bit, must have been horrible.

When dogs do this it's because of swollen anal glands. They scoot to try and relieve the pressure.

Once of my previous foster girls, Suzi, did this and her bottom got quite sore and red so I took her to the vet and she emptied her anal glands and after that there were no more problems She was a shorthair so definitely no poop stuck to her bottom

haha well @gillykat short haired cats can get it too my man told me the other day that Carlotta had a string of poops (apparently she had previously eaten one of my hairs) stuck to her, and was scooting along the floor staring at him with an incredibly serious expression. I didn't witness it myself but can picture it perfectly hahahaha.
