Breakthrough!!! We finally have a diagnosis of what is going on with Dexters eye!!
It appears that the bottom eyelid is curling in on itself which in turn is causing his fur to go in his eye, his eye to not be clearing any dirt or impurities away properly, which in turn is causing infection!!
Have been told to continue to give him the eye drops I have as they are more to help clean the eye and dont have any antibiotics or anything in them. His eye has been fab since giving him these new drops and after being shown how to massage around the eye (which hopefully train the lid to sit right again) it looks a million times better.
The vet wants to see him another 3-4 times before making a concrete decision but if the eyelid wont sit right then he will need to go for a small operation to help correct it. I am hoping it wont get to that (fingers crossed) but it does appear his eyelid is starting to go back to normal.

What a relief to have an explanation pixiepops. That must have been quite irritating for Dexter even before it got infected. Hope the drops & massage do the job & he doesn't need an op.

Thank you tonib but sadly we were given the news that he will need the operation after all. He is booked in for Wednesday next week.

It sounds like the operation they do for entropion (ingrowing eyelashes) on certain breeds of dog I've seen the op done on vet programmes and trust me, it's a simple quick operation and gives great results virtually straight away as the irritation is removed. Possibly Dexter will still need a wee course of eyedrops until the eyelid fully heals but I'm sure he WILL make a full recovery really quickly (animals recover amazingly fast compared to us humans!) and by this time next week he'll be back to the happy wee boy you know and love and swinging on the Christmas tree We'll all be sending (((((((HEALING VIBES))))) next Wednesday (((HUGS)))

Headache central in my house lol I hadnt ever actually heard of this until approx. 1 month ago as I was contacted by a rescue who had picked up a cat I had listed over on my organisations page. Poor wee soul had been missing for a year and had been found miles away when the rescue picked him up. He had this condition but was so bad that he had gone blind so that has tainted my expectations as I tend to focus on the negatives instead of the positives. I have drops for him just now (which I assume will be prescribed again after the op) called lubrithal (think I have spelled that correctly) basically to help keep the eye clean and to help minimalise irritation and they seem to have worked but looking forward to him getting back to his normal self.....probably wont be saying that when hes climbing the curtains and knocking over the tree

Awww now don't you go fretting love (((HUGS))) Dexter is still a baby and they've caught this problem quickly so I'm sure he'll soon be as fit as a flea again It's when it's left for months or years without treatment that it permanently damages the eye and I seriously doubt darling Dexter is in any danger of that

tonib yes everything went really well. Had a scare though as the vet phoned sooner than they stated they would so thought something had gone wrong. He was taken into the vets at half 8 for them to get him prepared for his op. Was in and done by 11. Got him home just after 3, fed him a wee bit of chicken for his tea and he was either sleeping or trying to get the cone of shame off of his head the rest of the night. This morning he has devoured the last wee bit of the chicken fillet I had cooked for him and a whole pouch of cat food, so he definitely has his appetite back He is looking really sorry for himself poor wee lamb

Glad to hear all went well pixiepops. Dexter will be feeling much better once he recovers from the anaesthetic & the wound has healed enough to have the cone of shame removed.

So hopefully he gets his xmas wish
