Found out how to get something similar to Recent Topics from the old forum. At the bottom of the forum index page there is a box headed Forum Information & Statistics In the left hand section headed threads & posts the bottom line reads Recent Threads - Recent Posts - RSS Feed - Mark All Boards Read These items are clickable & the first 1 is the equivalent of Recent Topics The 2nd is similar but gives all the last posts in date order (across all threads) newest first - it doesn't look so useful but I've found by clicking on the thread name on the post it takes you to that message again but in the right position on the thread So could be usseful for those YC looking at YD (or vice versa) or YP to see if a post is of interest - especially at the start The lists are paged so will take you as far as you want & the threads have the New symbol against them so can go straight to the new posts in that thread. Hope that makes sense to everyone.

Yeah i see what you mean. i kind of wanted to be able to see the recent posts for just the cat section because I'm not really into dogs so won't really go onto that part. I know I can just click on the cat ones but it seems so much easier to have one for just the cat section

Also I can't really tell which threads are from which section anyway so it's quite hard, not very user friendly. (I wouldn't like to use the last posts option you mentioned it's the one that brings up the latest whole threads i'd use). And I can't find an option to go straight to the last post on a thread like there was on the old forum?

Also do we get email notifications when someone replies to a thread we've written in on this forum?

Also do we get email notifications when someone replies to a thread we've written in on this forum? Ruthie xxx you set up email notifications within your profile ( or forum notifications ) but.... don't forget to book mark your thread and any thread that you want notifications on or else you won't be notified

How do i set it up to receive notifications? and to bookmark threads? Will it not email you automatically about any threads you've replied to if you've set it up in your profile without bookmarking?

Ruthie, you can set up your preferences for what & how you receive information in your profile.
Click on Profile near the top of a page Click on the Edit Profile button Click on the Notifications tab
You can then choose to receive notifications in the forum and/or by email for a number of things. Some may be set by default or be mandatory options.
In the old forum you had to subscribe to a thread to be notified when it was updated, here its called bookmark. There are 3 ways of doing this as far as I can see (I haven't tried them yet though).
Against the top of an actual thread there is an action box one option is bookmark
When typing a reply (not a quick reply) there is a wheel image on the top right, click this & one option is bookmark
In a list of threads if you hover your cursor to the left of the thread name a tick box will appear, tick that. Repeat for any other threads you want to be informed about. When all you want are ticked then click in the action box at the top of the page & you'll be able to choose bookmark
Hope that helps.

Gosh this is going to take some getting used to. I might try navigate all of this tomorrow. So we can't bookmark to get email notifications on a quick reply? And even if we edit our profile to say we want notifications we still have to bookmark the ones we want notifications on?
Is there a way to click on last post to just get to the last post in a thread instead of scrolling down the whole thread?

Ruthie, I'm not an expert but basing my comments on what I've seen or tried so may be missing something.
I can't see a bookmark option on the quick reply but you could then go to the top of the page & book mark it there - about as many actions (except for the scroll) as the subscribe tick box on the old forum & identical for the reply function as the old forum.
I can work out the logic for having to ask for notification for each thread as someone may want to post a comment on a thread but not be bothered about knowing if anything more is added.
Can't help about the last post but the new flag against a thread in the boards should take you to the first post of any new ones on the thread (same as the x new button on the old forum)

I hope James is reading this for my comments? When I click on the new flag it just seems to take me to the thread not the latest new reply. I guess I'll get used to it all but I don't really like change. I wish there was a bookmark function on the quick reply cos that's the one I use all the time
