flower it's safe to feed a cat just dry food but if they have any problem that means they need to maximise their water intake then a wet or mixed diet is preferable. There's a lot of debate about which brand(s) are best for a cat I think the concensus is that it should be the best quality that you can afford & your cat will eat it Our 4 cats all have different diets:- 15 year old, arthritic mainly indoors, Penny gets some moist as she has some powders to have daily but prefers dry - we give James Wellbeloved Senior - her food is carefully controlled as she put on 1Kg so although we've got her back to correct weight we make sure she doesn't put it on again. The rest all go out & are reasonably active 10 year old Roman has 1 pouch of Felix twice a day but often only eats the jelly, and has mainly James Wellbeloved dried but overnight has some Royal Canin Fit32 & Pure Feline Vitality mixed in as he really likes it. 8 year old Osiris has a pouch of Felix/Sheba & a small tin of Applaws/PAH Seriously Good twice a day, he also finishes Roman's & Lexie's but he will not eat dried be it food or treats! He's a fussy eater. 4 year old Lexie has 1/2 a pouch of Felix Sauce Sensations and James Wellbeloved dried twice a day. unfortunately she has a sensitive stomach & although she can now eat Felix she can't eat Royal Canin but does eat JWB. I prefer to give our cats dried & wet food if they will eat it, wet for the moisture & dried to help their teeth & also as it can be left out without spoiling.

Hey there flower , it is "safe" to feed just dry, many people do, but I've heard many times that cats on purely dry diets tend to be chronically dehydrated, as cats don't like to drink still water and would usually get the majority of their water intake from the diet. However cats love running water (stays oxygenated whereas still, lying water doesn't) , so you could always try getting one of those fountain style water bowls to see if that will get him to increase his water I take, otherwise I'd try at least part wet food. You could also pour a little warm water in with the dry food. This will bring out the smell and flavours too so might make it a little less bland, and adds some moisture for the cat. I'm perhaps biased though, both my cats which I adopted as adults have come to me with health problems due to poor diet, and both vomit when they eat dry. I know there are some decent dry cat food brands out there, but I still think wet is better than dry.

Don't forget flower, to reduce the amount of dried to compensate for the wet cat food. I work out how much a cat should get if only on the wet & only on the dried from the manufacturer's guidelines, then work out how much a pouch equates to in dried & reduce appropriately. After using that initially I adjust if the cat is putting on or losing weight as they are only guidelines.

we feed wet and dry and by the sounds of him ouside in his pen he also manages the odd moth as well we have a drinkwell fountain we dont measure his food he has dry down all the time rc or hills in the morning and night he gets wet food we just add a little extra water to the wet one pouch does the day its more the geavy than the food i think our vet told us cats like to graise they stop when they have enough well some do and some dont the cats i feed at work would keep feeding unitl the sore was empty moonbeam takes a little at a time

our vet told us cats like to graise they stop when they have enough well some do and some dont the cats i feed at work would keep feeding unitl the sore was empty moonbeam takes a little at a time Unfortunately no-one told our Penny that spider. We leave dry available all the time but when we were both working we weren't realising that Penny was helping herself to everyones! When we realised she'd gained over 1Kg so she was put on a strict diet & the others started being fed on worktops which she couldn't reach but they could. She lost the weight but has fluctuated so now we measure her food very carefully & she's staying at a constant 3.8Kg
