Here's another article on it from My Itchy Dog: www.myitchydog.co.uk/blog/apple-cider-vinegar.htmlI've been wondering about how effective it is in stopping itching, but I'm not sure if I'm willing to switch to this when the Yumega Plus is working. This article does mention that it's renowned for preventing tear stains though

The whole reason I asked about ACV was in hope of it helping with Bernies tear stains... Might have to try it and see So for tear stains do you fed it to them or use it on the actual stains??? I've been wondering about how effective it is in stopping itching, but I'm not sure if I'm willing to switch to this when the Yumega Plus is working. How's the Yumega Plus going? Your girls have been on it longer than my boy. I'm wondering if I might have to cut the dose down as Coopers been getting lose Poop?? It's either that or the Trout and potato fishmonger food???

Do dogs like vinegar? mine doesn't. I haven't personally tried it but I think my Earl would like it fine - he loves anything and I'm sure that applies to all greedy dogs like mine too.

I'm wondering if I might have to cut the dose down as Coopers been getting lose Poop?? It's either that or the Trout and potato fishmonger food??? It's worked really well for Pepper. I haven't been giving it to Ellie as she hasn't had the same problem. Before we started her on it, she would constantly be scratching - the noise of her used to drive us mad, but at the same time, I can't imagine how she was feeling. She would either scratch using her foot, or she'd roll around on the floor on her back. After about 3 weeks she stopped scratching as much - she was still scratching at that point, just not to the extent that she was before. Then after another few weeks, she was even better. Now (I can't remember how long she's been on it) she barely scratches at all. Only when she gets an itch, I assume, and it's not for as long as before. She seems a lot happier, so I'm happy. I was sceptical about the claims that are made about Yumega Plus at first, but I'm definitely a convert to it. It has actually worked wonders for Pepper. But obviously every dog is different and it might take longer to work for Cooper.

Do dogs like vinegar? mine doesn't. No, which is why it's best to start by adding a tiny bit to their water and up the dose over time. The whole reason I asked about ACV was in hope of it helping with Bernies tear stains... Might have to try it and see So for tear stains do you fed it to them or use it on the actual stains??? Never ever on the tears themselves!! Ouchy! That would make the eyes water for sure!! You just add a tsp to their water bowl.

petitsfilous Sorry I didn't mean do you just pour it over the dogs face?!?! I wondered if you mix it with something and then wipe it over the stain. Can't be any worse than the Johnson's Dog & Cat Diamond Eyes!?!

Does it have to be ACV or could you use another kind, say red wine vinegar instead?

Does it have to be ACV or could you use another kind, say red wine vinegar instead? I really wouldn't know. I've only heard of the apple cider kind. :/

Hi, just wondered as I have red wine vinegar in the cupboard. Need to do some reading to see if ACV is safe for cats too as my cats share Jaspers water and its one of the cats with tear staining.

I have not heard anything about using red wine vinegar for dogs. The reason apple cider vinegar is used is because it's not commonly used for cooking, unlike red wine vinegar, and is a more natural product. Red wine vinegar doesn't contain any of the helpful enzymes that apple cider vinegar is - at least that's how I've interpreted the things I've read on the various links posted in this thread.

petitsfilous - Would it not be very strong tasting in the drinking water? orpheous87 - I think it might be a little early to tell for the Yumega Plus results but seen an improvement already going completely grain free. Although I'm sure the Trout and potato is going through him a little, were as the white fish one didn't.

petitsfilous - Would it not be very strong tasting in the drinking water? Yes, which is why you just want to add a tiny bit to begin with. Failing that, some people add it to the dogs food.

petitsfilous Thanks Hun. I think IF I gave it to Coops it would have to be in food?? Anything different regarding his water and he wont drink!?!? If you do try it can you let me know how the tear stains look please?
