Dropped into Hardwick Park again today.Sat enjoying picnic on seat in front of marquee, near the white metal steps up to the open coach door (Orpheous will know the spot).Did a double take as man in tri corn hat and all the gear was standing there! He came over and said he was the architect for the buildings,(should have asked what year he was born....)but we had a lovely chat,he told us lots about the buildings etc,and is taking History tours of Hardwick, the dates are in the brochure. He is a lovely man, good humoured, and I am in no doubt his tours will be very interesting and enjoyable. He even told us about the cost of the original Neptune, which was only £s in todays costs,it was stolen and it's present replacement cost many thousands. Saw more of the park as it is massive with so much to see,so took even more pics, including the Architect in his beautiful outfit. So if you live near enough, the park is well worth a visit.

I think I know the spot, yes! It sounds like you had a lovely time, Migsy! Did you go left after leaving the visitor centre bit? There's lots of wooden men built in the woods that always make me jump when I spot them peeking round the trees. I always think that Neptune would look better if he wasn't so green. Like Gladys said, I'd love to see the photos

Haha, don't say there's more and we missed them? wooden men?Saw the wooden lady near the bridge,a massive wooden chair, and a toad.Afraid you mustn't hold your breath for photos,I haven't got round to even trying putting any up yet, probably forgotten how I put the ones up on the old and older forums by now.Looked on visitor map, where we had picnic is called the Grand Terrace near Gothic seat and Circular Pond. There's certainly a lot in the park to see, with so many unusual touches. The man in the period outfit gave me quite a start,I can tell you, certainly didn't expect that.Am I seeing things? is it a ghost? woooooh!

Yeah, they're only small - child size I suppose. I think there were three, but one fell apart. They're near where the big wooden chair is - that's the bit they use for the children's stories I think. It's very easy to put photos on here, you just click on the bit that says edit attachments after you've clicked on reply. Yes, that's the bit I was thinking of Since they restored it all they've added loads of little bits of artwork and things and it makes it look so much nicer. I mean, it was always nice anyway but it was just a lot of nature and now there's all this other stuff. I like all the little ruins that are dotted around. Haha! I bet he did!

Haha, I had to double check in case I'd got it wrong! I'm looking forward to it. Lol, yes, that's a good idea. I'm trying to think of the best way, but I don't really know if there are any shortcuts coming from your way.

You could come down the A167, then turn towards Sedgefield. But even coming down the A1, it should only take you about 20 mins. Oh, I know! I'm hoping that my friend will come with me, but she's got a job interview in Brighton next week so she might not even be in the north by then!
