I freely admit to not being a cat lover but the colouring of Star, Moonbeam and the mum and dad to be is beautiful. I know nothing about cats - is it their breed that makes them that colour or something to do with genetics? you and me both , but im becoming more appreciative of them

Moonbeam is a pure breed from a line of show winners we never put him on show he was got as a pet and he is class star and mum and dad are mixed cats I'm hoping for a white kitten her mum and gran are pure white iv a home for a white one many years ago I found a white kitten in my neighbours garden it wasn't there's so I gave her to vera as it worked it was Vera's birthday and she always wanted a white cat bless her I don't think she ever counted how many cats she has

So.....Moonbeam etc are silver and stripey because of their breed ? Or can you get that colour from all sorts of breeds?
Dogs I understand. I have a cavalier who is black and tan but you can see them in three other colours. Does that happen with cats too? I ve heard of a few cat breeds.....Siamese, Burmese, Maine something and etc. Do all the breeds come in various colours ?

Same as dogs ur King charles has similar markings to all charles the personality will be there own but if u were to see another charles u would know him a mile away in the world of pure breeds cats it's just the same non breeds are by far the healthier when it comes to cats or dogs

I ve heard of a few cat breeds.....Siamese, Burmese, Maine something and etc. Do all the breeds come in various colours ? I had 2 Maine Coons and they come in a variety of colours. Mine were a brown mackerel tabby and a cream mackerel tabby and white. Colours they come in include solid black, solid white, solid blue (grey), solid red (ginger) and solid cream (pale ginger) black and white, brown tabby, blue tabby, cream tabby, silver tabby and red tabby. All the tabbies come with white too. Then you can get a black tortie, a red tortie, a cream tortie and also a blue tortie. Not forgetting the tortie-tabbies and the 'smokes' too. The markings on Vera's cat are called 'mackerel tabby', which are more like a mottled effect. So, meandmine, there's a Maine Coon colour to suit everyone.

Thank you both. I was brought up with dogs and for many years I didn't realise there was such a thing as a pedigree cat, I thought all cats were ' cross breeds' or " moggies" as they were known. What started me thinking about it recently was a question on Pointless ( the tea time quiz programme) . They showed five pictures of cats - Burmese, Bengal, Maine Coone , Tyger (?) and a fifth one I can't remember but was something like Toyler?. I knew one answer ๐คญ.( Coincidentally a few days later there was a question about dogs and I knew all five immediately).

Toyger is the other breed of cat meandmine. I think most people know lots of breeds of dogs and not many cat breeds. I was the same before I had my Maine Coons. It was only by chance that I heard of Maine Coons because I found a 5 week old abandoned kitten and as he grew my son said he looked like his friend's Maine Coon cat. When my poor cat was killed on the road at only 8 months old I started to look at Maine Coons online, found a local breeder and had to have one.

Hubby does like Maine coons maybe in the future it will be something we look into ๐ป They have amazing personalities, they like a lot of attention and like to follow you around watching what you are doing, quite dog-like in fact. They are vocal. They have to be brushed every day but not a huge amount, you just have to watch for tangles forming and deal with them quickly. My Blackberry and Willow take more brushing than the Maine Coons ever did. They are a lovely breed and I would love another one.

I love the tortoise shell and I agree it really does remind you of Bramble ๐ปbut as you probably know my one time favourite is the Ginger I really do have a spot for them. You never know maybe one day but hubby says the inn is now full with 2 dogs 1 cat 2 Guinea pigs and a pleco fish but never say never ๐ป๐

If you do decide o getting a pedigree (Maine Coon or otherwise) cat @schantel don't forget the cat world is most peculiar in that officially a ginger coat is actually a red!!! Most non-pedigree owners would call them ginger but its the red gene that makes them so!!! Nothing simple
