Hello! Thanks so much for the replies, I've been away and super busy so haven't been on as much (I've missed it though, I love this forum!).
The PDSA in Scotland have just started a pet fit club again this year so I sent mum a link to that, dunno if she'll use it but it's a starts one of her main problems is getting the right portions, and also dad often feeds the dog when he is home from the rig and constantly gives a full bowl, so the accurate scoop and smaller bowl for the dog are probably the answer. I'm going over for a music festival in June again so I'll bring Rosas old bowls (she didn't like eating out of them and always tips the completely useless water bowl immediately) over and get a scoop thing for the cats and another for the dog (any recommendations for a good one) and also work out the best amount based on the cats and dogs ideal and current weights for them to eat. I'm going to start ordering the food online soon and getting it sent to her, so I'll be in control of WHAT they eat (mum tends to go for the cheapest, which varies and therefore feeding amount also varies). A problem with Smudgie is we suspect out neighbour feeds her overweight cats outside or has a cat flap and leaves out food, because Smudgie hardly eats at home and is huge, but it would be cruel to keep her in as she loves going out.
The problem is, the neighbour is herself a VERY large lady, and also a very unfriendly one (she once got into trouble for pushing the local tough guy into a bush, and also constantly phones the police on us for stupid reasons) and I'm a bit worried that confronting her will make matters worse. My dad works abroad month on month off and the neighbour doesn't like my mum (who is very shy) for some reason and could potentially make life hell for mum. I feel like saying that my cat is on a diet, hardly eats at home and is possibly getting food from her is the type of thing to really annoy her. Plus it might not be her, she has security cameras on her property and is exactly the type of person who would send a bill for any food my cat "stole" from her cats haha. I'm tempted to get a GPS device for Smudgie's collar to see where she spends her time when outside, maybe then I could figure out where her food supply is haha. Can you get things like that now?
