Thanks zahada. Had a quick look & it seems Prac-tic is for dogs as is Advantix & Activyl Tick Plus . Seresto collars sound ideal but they don't recommend adding anything to the collars & as our cats go out & about & have name tags & the Loc8tor tags on the collars as well not sure this would work unless they had 2 collars!

Welcome to forum messigizmodougal. Our vets' website says that they supply Fiprocat as its cheaper than Frontline but the same effective ingredient However I seem to remember overhearing that they now recommend Effipro as they have found that Frontline is not working as well (fleas seem to be getting an immunity). Could have misheard this as its the one we use & has the same ingredient as Frontline & Fiprocat. We'd already switched to Effipro as it was cheaper (internet suppliers) than Frontline anyway. Although one cat has Advocate as he seemed to have developed a reaction to Frontline (bald spot at application site). However that doesn't cover ticks & he got one so now has Effipro in tick season (with no reaction) & Advocate otherwise. As lotsofcats said don't forget to clean the bedding & house as well. Luckily I've not had any experience of flea infestations (despite 4 rescue cats who go out) so can't recommend anything for the h9ome. Toni would you recommend Effipro? Both my girls have frontline spot on and they have never had fleas (bailey came with fleas as a rescue at 12 weeks old but never had them since). As there might be something in having to treat the house as well as the pets, to break the cycle. I do believe it's VERY important to treat the house too. I have a huge clean of the whole house once a year (would do it more if I found fleas but not had to do this) and after a big clean and vacuum I spray EVERYTHING with Indorex Household Flea Spray It must work as I have no fleas and it seems to kill all other insects that are in the house after spraying too!

I've just changed to Effipro and it seems to be working. We had an outbreak of fleas and Bandits eczema came back, but since using Effipro and combing every day, now every other day with the flea comb her eczema has cleared up without having to take her for an injection. I also sprayed everywhere with Skoosh. The only thing I find with Skoosh is that it can make your shoes and slippers a bit slippy for a few days.
By the way I use Effipro cat and Effipro dog.

gladys, Effipro works fine - no fleas or ticks found - but we are definitely going to have to. stop Roman having it or any fipronil based product as the last time it created a largish bald spot again - the other 3 cats don't have a problem with it. 3 of our 4 cats regularly go out whilst the 4th does occasionally but also has a flea allergy so its important we don't get any.

Cheers me dears. It will be worth me making a note of this just in case the frontline stops working. I guess I wont know until the house is crawling with the ickle buggers?!? But I will probably forget and ask you which one it was in a few months. Sorry to hear Roman has such a reaction.

Thanks caz2golden, I knew cats must have the dog version but hadn't thought about cross-contamination just by playing together. Luckily our cats don't coe into contact with dogs but other members' do.

Thanks for the advice, I'll keep this in mind when treating our three in a week or so. At least I know that both cats won't have anything to do with the dog, (poor chap) but then again they won't have anything to do with each other.
