I bet its just because the actual script was written in America!
It is important in other places that dogs get spayed/neutered for health reasons I'm sure.
Well of course it says America because it was written by a vet in the USA! She is not writing a WORLD perspective.

I read about this in the mag. I don't like the ads themselves, I can understand a charity pushing for neutering, but I don't think they have put a great deal of thought into the ads themselves.
I'm pro-choice when it comes to neutering/spaying, but I think ALL rescue dogs should be done. It's too easy for someone to get a cheap rescue pet and breed it.

Interesting way to go about promoting their campaign! It certainly got itself noticed. I do agree with a neutering principle for cats & dogs which are not going to bred from whether pedigree or not as it will help reduce the number of stray cats & dogs. This is where I will disagree with you. I do not think that just because a dog is not going to be used for breeding means that it should be neutered. If I am a responsible dog owner then even if my dog is not neutered it should not produce any unwanted litters of dogs, and if I cannot prevent such a thing happening then am I really in a position to own a dog? Show dogs usually aren't neutered, and not all show dogs are used for breeding. As for cats, well they are obviously a lot more independent than dogs, and get a lot more freedom to roam so I would agree with neutering them.

dont know what went wrong there i was trying to reply to bextull post as a responsibel owner of a indoor neutered cat i agree with the point you make about cats being way more independant than dogs but some of the other points i would disagree with dogs will also travel miles to breed and as all dog owners may not be as responsible as you are i guess dogs also should be neutered if we are ever going to sort out the dumping of unwanted kittens and pups as there seems to be a lot of pet owners that dont seek help when more pups /kittens arrive so they dump them in parks on roads anywhere but try and see that they are taken care of properly these animals are our pets our responsibility so its up to us to do whats best for them cats /dogs etc

In the second link given by SB there is reference to the possibility of increased aggression in castrated males. Fear based aggression might be alleviated (or be less likely) in an intact dog because of the effects of testosterone giving the dog more confidence. It is often suggested that aggressive dogs be castrated with a view to reducing any aggressive behaviour: this may, in fact, have the reverse effect, making the dog more fearful and thus potentially more aggressive, if the aggression is fear based as it often is, particularly in un-socialized rescued dogs.

Oh dear I read it the first time, what has changed, what exactly is your POINT? I really do not need instructions on how to read, I am considered fairly literate by my peers.......
