My partner had text me today while I was at work saying "I've done something crazy, your going to kill me" I do 13hour shifts so I had all day for it to go round in my head trying to figure out what it may be...I thought maybe a new car or something. So I got home at the end of my shift came in to find this absolutely awesome looking cage! Its so colourful and like a penthouse for a hamster :-) I was over the moon with it as we had decided that we wouldn't get anymore pets lol. So today we are going to get a hamster :-D totally can't! So I've been thinking about it ever since on which kind of hamster to get and I know they are the most common but I think I may get a Syrian Hamster =D

She's gorgeous! I had one called Lilly once. What cage did you get? You have to be really careful with tubes, the majority of cages with tubes are not suitable for hamsters due to that reason! So many have got stuck and suffocated in them One of mine included, she died in a Rotastak cage and I always hate seeing them advertised for a Syrian now.

Im not sure of the name of the cage but will put a pic up at some point. Its a decent size though. Im thinking of shutting the holes where the tubes are and getting ladders of some sort before she gets too big for the tubes. Ive been worrying about something happening

I didn't mean to submit that there. I've also been looking at completely new cages but none seem big enough. Hopefully I will come to some kind of decision soon

The ALASKA cage on ZooPlus is the cheapest cage that meets RSPCA welfare guidlines. I don't have it but a friend of mine does and its really spacious and secure - www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/hutches_cages/hamster_cages/hamster_cages/284288 - It doesn't look much on the pic but its epic! The other good option is second hand 'ZooZone' cages. They are advertised for rabbits and guinea pigs but make fab sized hamster homes. My Minstrel lives in one. They are around £100 new, but I got mine for £20 second hand

I've always had Rotastak cages for my hamsters and gerbils - and my mum the same 30years ago! They are the best in my opinion as there is the option to add on and build an empire and you can shut bits of and remove a small section if you need to take it to the vet. My three gerbil girls have a MASSIVE one now! I ended up with lots of sections from having lots of gerbils and hamsters in one go! :-)
ETA - one of my hamsters was ginormous and never got stuck in the tubes if you have the same make cage!
