Border Terrier suggests "Sometimes its better to get a good, reliable, kind family member who's had dog experiance before to pet sit your dog while you go on a little holiday."
Some years ago we were on holiday in Yorkshire and met a couple on their honeymoon. They had elected to leave their dynamic dog with the man's mother. However, their honeymoon was significantly spoiled by their worries that their dog would have trashed the mother's home. We met them on a heritage railway train and when the man's mobile phone rang, upon seeing it was the mother phoning, the couple looked very anxious and wondered if they really wanted to answer the phone - after some moments they plucked up courage and were extremely relieved to find all was well! BUT they were still wondering about the NEXT time the phone rang .... Oh, the joys of dog ownership!

Yeah collieslave the worry is worse than having children sometimes I think. I agreed with hubby that we would still holiday abroad when we got Cooper. I hate flying but said we could at least go abroad again once pup had grown and settled. I'm VERY happy to report that Cooper is now just over 4 years old and I have not been abroad since 2008!!! Hubby loves the hot weather and doesn't mind flying but he does enjoy and likes going to different places within the uk too, Thank Dogness. I on the other hand hate flying and while abroad spent most of the time in the shade. I also hate leaving Cooper, going to crufts this year and leaving him with my parents over night was the first time we had been apart for so long. I will continue to push for uk holidays and hope hubby loves me enough to agree.

Most of these advertisers are just wasting their money and misleading. My experience is they NOT dog friendly but will tolerate dogs for the extra income. It is not until you read the terms and conditions that they show their true colours.
Examples: "You are most welcome to bring your well behaved pet(s), subject to prior arrangement, provided you never allow your pet on the beds or furniture." #So how can I curl up with the dog after a long day of sight seeing? Another common clause is dogs cannot be left in room on their own and not allowed in restaurants. #So what do we do with the dog when we want to eat? These people have not thought it through have they and they are running a business. On the positive side there are genuine dog friendly places and they are fantastic. Plus this gets reflected in the surrounding area as well, so making it a better holiday. These are the places we choose to use...
