I was watching 'It's Me or The Dog' the other day and Victoria diagnosed a dog with ADHD (and the vet confirmed I think) and the dog was put on medication. Milo had a few behaviours that where identcal to the other dogs except Milo's aren't as extreme. I have done a little research on the internet and found out that apparently ADHD is very rare in dogs but can happen. I've looked up the symptoms and Milo ticks all the boxes but of course you cannot believe everything you read on the internet or see on tv so whats everyone's opinions?? Should I mention this to my vet or just leave it??

IME one person's "hyper" is another person's "normal"
Most ghastly behviour that I see is down to lack of impulse control caused by owners failing to develop it in their dogs.
Who ELSE thinks your dog is "abnormal" and who thinks something else?
That would be the key for me.

I've always thought Katy has mild ADHD, but I think its pretty controversial. Worth mentioning though, see what the vet says.

Smokeybear- My auntie was the first to suggest something was a little abnormal with Milo, she thought autism but I don't think he has that (if dogs can even get it!). Other members of the family also think he has ADHD, it's not his obedience but the way he acts that gives it away. SarahHound- Exactly, everyone with a hyper dog probably thinks it, thats why I'm a little hesitant over going the vets about it. I guess if it hepls him though I'll do it

As others have said it is a difficult one as whether anything (animal or human) would qualify as having ADHD symptoms is very subjective & could be down as smokeybear said to other factors. However the next time you go to the vet, assuming Milo has regular check-ups, or if not in then why not give them a call & see whether they think its worth a consultation.

It's an interesting subject that I would love to research more (if only I had the time). As said by others you would have to look at everything involved in the dogs life There might be other factors involved as smokeybear said. When teaching 3 and 4 year olds in a school we had a very out of control child who was into everything. The key stage teacher for our group wanted to put him on the special needs spectrum and get him assessed for ADHD but I and an other teacher wanted to see what else it could be first so I chatted to his mum and it turned out he was living on sunny delight drinks, crisps like wotsits and other sweets. Mum agreed to cut them down or out all together and he completely calmed down. So yeah it's always good to look at the whole picture not just the actions of the dog as they might be caused by something else.

I work in a newsagents and when I see how much JUNK....sweets, fizzy drinks and even energy drinks....that the parents buy their kids on the way to school at 8.30am and again at just after 3pm I often feel sorry for the teachers in the schools because those kids must be a nightmare to calm down enough to educate and teach

(rofl)I used to think that my various dogs suffered from various mental problems till I realised the problem was with me. Now my dogs are cured... Which episode are you referring to? Rocky the SCWT? If so, I too would go mental locked up most of the day with no outlet for my physical and mental energy.

gladys I am going to look into it further, I was just getting other peoples opinions on whether they thought dogs could get it zahada No not that episode. It was one about a golden retriever (I think it's name was Indie). Milo gets plenty of mental and physical exercise.

No impulse control at all. Indiana didn't have it either.

I'm sure dogs could suffer from it as I do believe it's possible for them to have OCD. But I would have a look at what ingredients are in his food and treats to see if anything could be making him a bit hyper?? If you do any research please share your findings, I would be very interested to hear about what you find.
