I had a very interesting day yesterday. I had a meeting with our reception manager who will be retiring in October after 42 years of service. Although we won’t be having another reception manager there is quite a lot of admin duties that will need to be passed on to someone.
I asked if I picked up quite a bit of the admin work like - coding smears, breast screening, bowel screening, death notifications- would it be an option to drop some reception hours and move to admin. She said now is the time if any of us wants to tweak our hours then they can advertise for a receptionist or maybe 2.
Although I like my hours that I do I only really dropped my hours on a Friday because of the stress a certain receptionist was causing me. The only issue is the reception manager works all day on a Tuesday and it’s a definite no no for me to work that day. I really enjoy my Tuesdays off after a real stressful and intense Monday, also hubby has managers meetings all day Tuesday- he works from home Mondays to be around for the pooches because I work 8-6 all day.
All though she did say that I wouldn’t need to work her hours I could just do my own hours I just was trying to see if I could cover any of her hours too. It would be great if I could reduce some reception hours and it would take the pressure off me trying to find another job. I will have to have a 🤔 think.

Could you not do her Tuesday hours on another of your days ? Maybe re instate Fridays ? or are you accustomed to having Fridays off now for a long weekend ?
You have to weigh up whats important to YOU and your health. If you take on her duties are they likely to start putting upon you more and more ?
Do what makes you happy inside is all I can advise . Good luck with your decision chantel x

I did think of perhaps I could work longer on the Wednesday but I don’t want to take on too much and commit to something that might later regret. I think I’m going to have a think and see what hubby thinks. It has to fit around hubby’s work to because it would mean he would probably after work at home for the afternoon period.

I agree , take your time to decide you have a few months x Whats to stop you moving into Admin any ways ? Can they not have 2 part timers doing her job, then they have coverage for holidays too between you both. Just a thought. Im sure they can tweak it ? , maybe suggest that ? as she also said ....
... All though she did say that I wouldn’t need to work her hours I could just do my own hours

As they say, food for thought chantel. If you can work out hours to suit it will be a good opportunity.

I'm thinking I could work her Tuesday hrs 8-3:30pm on a Wednesday instead of my hours 11:45- 6 . It as been mentioned that we maybe able to get ×2 receptionists to cover any hours that I drop or if any of the other receptionists want to tweak their hours. I agree lotsofcats it would be a good opportunity for me and I have taken all your advice in scallywag 🙏this might be my only opportunity 😉 Ideally it would be good to drop all my reception hours but I don't think they will go for that , but just dropping some hours would be good 😀

chantel, if the manager has suggested they could get 1, or even 2, new receptionists, then she may be implying that you could drop being a receptionist, and just do admin. Also is there any way that you could do some of the work from home, so you can also be there for the pooches? Plus would it mean a pay rise too?

So.....football may not be coming home but OH is. All being well he is being discharged tomorrow 👏👏👏. I am so happy to say OH was discharged yesterday . He s a bit weak on his legs and struggling to walk more than a few yards but now he's home he can build on that gradually. More good news is that he has spoken to his heart treatment hospital today and has been given the go ahead to re start the remainder of his 'normal' medication. He takes so many tablets it s a wonder he doesn't rattle.😁 Having read his discharge letter I can see now why he was in hospital for so long and was so poorly. On top of everything else it seems he s had pneumonia! Once more ......thank you to everyone for their good wishes. xx

That’s what I would like really cazypops but I don’t think they will let me drop all of my reception hours , because I am the one with the most experience and always gets the work done , but I will be asking the question for sure. well as for the money we are not having a reception manager but I think there would be a little pay rise for working in admin - she has also said she will do what ever she can to get me off reception, and said she was going to email the group manager. some of the admin do work from home one day a week so it maybe an option.

Well I have put forward my hours that I would like to change - Wednesday 8-3:30pm so hopefully my hours would be - Monday- 8-4pm will be getting a receptionist to work 8-6 and it means I could be home at a reasonable time. Tuesday- off Wednesday- 8:- 3:30pm Thursday- 11:45 - 6:pm Friday- off I will just have to see what they say. meandmine I’m so pleased hubby is home , but it will take him some time to fully recover. When I got Covid the first time it proper wiped me off my feet and left me with this horrible chest and constant cough and I didn’t have any underlying health problems. The main thing is he’s home and he can now just take his time to recover and lots of TLC 🥰sending hugs x

Just as well you didn't know that he had pneumonia while he was in hospital, that would have been much more to worry about. Glad he is back on his usual heart medication. I know what you mean about rattling, I take 10 heart tablets a day. He will get stronger every day now he is home, slowly but surely.

meandmine, Really glad to hear your OH is home again, back on his full heart meds & not only that but you've got an explanation for why he was so bad . As the others have said just as well you didn't know the reason as you would have been even more concerned. chantel, fingers crossed you get the hours & work you want , plus a pay rise
