Long story cut short Elphie & Letti like in a hutch which I suppose is meant for outdoor use but I wanted it for the size to be mainly used indoor but able when the better weather is in to go outside. This is what it looks like, I got this pic off google lol So to get to my problem...due to both sides just being like cage I constantly get hay & poo falling out. And because the bottom slides out & where the girls gi to the toilet it runs through the gap & onto the floor What Im looking for is ideas/suggestions that could help with this. Preferably something that at least looks ok & not what Im doing just now...cutting bin bags open and putting it under lol Help?

Well you may think this sounds weird but when I bought my funny bunny (big lop rabbit) inside cause he was unwell, I bought a funky looking shower curtain to go on the floor under his cage. He was in a large dog crate so could make his bedding go out in four directions. I also did the same to go under Coopers crate & pen when he was a puppy as the crate was on carpet. If you get a bright one or one that goes with the room, it can look quite good and VERY easy to wipe down.

You could get some clear plastic and board up the sides. At the moment that hutch really isn't suited to being outdoors because of the wind getting in the side. As for the bottom, there's not really much you can do about it other than putting some tarpaulin underneath. Hate to say it but those hutches are notorious for the pee running through and eventually, the bottom falling out. I had one and it lasted less than a year. I was raging because I paid a lot for it!
Have you thought about getting a different hutch? Those ones are quite small for fully grown guinea pigs and the wood really doesn't last long once its outside!

gladys I like the idea of the shower curtain...that would be pretty awesome looking SarahHound wish I had realised how annoying it was going to be having pee running down the side or even knew it would happen. I will defo be looking for a new hutch in the near future which wont be a larger version of this hutch lol most prob be plastic. Hopefully find a decently priced one for my 2 girls. If I don't go for the plastic bottomed ones I do like the idea of those grid ones you put together yourself lol

this was suggested on a web site.... Use perspex, which is a clear plastic from diy stores ,on the base of your hutch and get your rabbit spayed when mature to stop spraying on the sides of the cage

I think I would go for 2nd one although Not much a size dif with mine being 114cm width & 44cm depth and second option being 152cm width & 61cm depth...obv both being 2 teir which my girls seem to love lol. Think I was just hoping if I was to upgrade the hutch it would be allot bigger lol.

SarahHound wow those Ryedale hutches are beautiful. I wouldn't say I have a budget but nothing OTT lol. As long as I know what kind of price I'm aiming for I can put the money aside until then. I have no issue with spending money on my piggies or any my pets for that matter lol

No nor do I lol. I'm pretty sure if you buy any of those they will last a very long time. The Ryedale ones are so beautiful, but I could never stretch that far sadly

Did you ever solve this.issue? Was cleaning my pigs the other night and was thinking of you. We use fleece now. Put a layer of puppy pads on the base of the cage, then a towel, and then brightly coloured fleece. Theres been absolutely no mess as the pads soak up the pee, and it looks good!
