Penny was fine today but come tea time we saw her limping badly & holding her right leg up. Can't see anything obvious but I think her leg is swollen in one place. She's always grumpy about touching her limbs as she is a bit arthritic. We're not allowing her access to food tonight, moved a litter tray closer to her bed and will see how she is in the morning if she's still limping we'll get an appointment with the vets as soon as possible.
Don't know what's happened but Lexie jumped down from the arm of the settee when Penny was underneath so she may have twisted to avoid being landed on I know Lexie chased her after & she went upstairs. We didn't see her then but ...
Fingers crossed she'll be OK in the morning but I'm not hopeful. The vets will be feed up with her. She went on Friday for claw clipping & weight checking & she caused a bit of chaos as they were a bit shorthanded & she didn't behave for the claw clipping by 1 vet nurse so they had to get the vet to assist!

I hope that Penny is better this morning and doesn't need a trip to the vet. Obviously she doesn't like the vets - I can just imagine the nurse and the vet struggling with her to clip her claws on her Friday visit.

Penny had gone downstairs last thing last night only to find no food down - not impressed - I carried her back to her bed upstairs as she was still badly limping & I didn't want to strain her leg any more, she was not at all happy but settled. She'd had Loxicom (a form of Metacam) as usual with her tea (for her arthritis) but 5 hours later there was no noticeable change. At 5 a.m. this morning Penny decided to get on our bed & let me know (Mark slept through it all!) that she was hungry!!! She then followed me to the toilet (so got off the bed OK & didn't seem too bad walking although I hadn't got my glasses on! When we got up at 7:30 she was much better than last night but there was a slight limp so we decided to see how it went today & fed her & the others. She's still very grumpy anywhere near the leg (a bit more than usual!) & I thought I could just feel a small lump so I've booked her an appointment for 3:25 at the vet hospital this afternoon as they'll have a nurse there to assist if necessary. The branch surgeries which are nearer don't normally have nurses there. Its still only 15-20 minutes drive & even the 5-10 to the branches can make her travel sick so not really any difference. The washing machine will probably get used again today - I always take a spare blanket with me & apologise to the staff (& customers waiting) for the delicate aroma of a Penny deposit - oh they do stink, we often have to wind the car window down! It's hopefully nothing just a strain but I'd rather be safe than sorry, a slightly overprotective owner maybe but .... Penny thanks everyone for their good wishes

Although the vet nurses say she's ever so good when they do her claws & why all the reports of problems. Perhaps because they use 2 each time or I'm not present, I don't know. When they took her downstairs & the vet helped it was done very quickly she was back in a couple of minutes!

Ah bless, it's a worry isn't it? I hope it was a blip and she's feeling better. It's when animals go off their food that you need to worry!! Tia (RIP) used to be so indignant if I had to starve her for the Vet's.

Well the vet couldn't find anything seriously wrong but knew she was sore - the odd grumble told him that. He did initially find a bump but lost it again & then he & I could only find what he said were the normal bumps of her carpels. She had good mobility in the leg. So go home, possibly up her daily metacam to the max for her weight for a few days but I'm going to see how she goes overnight before upping the dose. She was beautifully behaved, even travelled there & back without any problems, just a very little drool. Don;t know whether the behaviour with the vet was due to the young, nice looking vet with an Italian accent or she was just spaced out from the mix of Feliway & Pet Remedy sprays in her carrier ! Think she might also be a rock music fan as I was playing Fleetwood Mac, as opposed to the normal radio, on the journey & she travelled well - just curled up in the carrier. I remember once before she travelled both ways without any travel sickness & I was playing music. She was also well behaved when she last saw that vet She's limping this evening but nowhere near as bad a last night, she's had her metacam this evening so we'll see.

Hmmmm, young looking vet with an Italian accent - no wonder Penny was well behaved! Can't complain, I have a nice young Lithuanian vet and the cats all seem to love him. How is Penny today?

I agree there lotsofcats, he does seem to have a way with the animals. I remember when he joined the practice a year or so ago, he accompanied the head vet on one of my visits & he introduced him as one Roman to another - you can guess which cat I was taking! I think Penny's still a bit sore but the limp is definitely not bad just a faint stiffness & a little more grumpiness than normal around the leg.

Tonib good to hear Penny seems to be on the mend. Perhaps you need to leave a bit of Fleetwood Mac on for her at home so she can do her own physiotherapy and bop along. Just maybe don't let her listen to The Chain's instrumental in case she wants to start racing around.

Thanks everyone, Penny has her ups & downs over the last few days but nothing like that first day. It doesn't help when she decides to be sick, small hairball, after she's had some of the food with her Loxicom (metacam) in yesterday so not sure how much of it she got! But its gradually improving, she always is a bit heavy/bow legged these days with her front legs, I think she's developed a walk that is easy with the arthritis. Although the vet said she has good mobility in her joints & boy when she's scampering around after paper balls - she steals them from the waste paper basket - you'd never know she has arthritis
