Sorry if someone has already posted about this!! Plastered across the news about another dog attack which I have no doubt you have all heard about. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-21951289 You have to ask yourself why do such things keep happening?

Irresponsible owners again. This was an accident waiting to happen. Why on earth would you have so many large dogs in a house? Cannot even allow myself to imagine what that poor child went through. Girl and friend probably too young to realise the danger of a child being left alone with them, even an adult who was not family could have met same fate. Remember listening to a prog on radio some time ago, concerning people who had been attacked by dogs, one said as a young teenager she was in room with dog and owner, and when she was left on her own,dog started behaving in threatening manner then attacked her. Suppose no one will ever know what really happened.

The link doesn't work for me, is this the one where the girl was supposedly attacked by several dogs at once?
They haven't officially established the cause of death, yet killed the dogs anyway? Wrong in my opinion.
Also, there's nothing wrong with having that many dogs in one house, people have any right to own whatever dogs they wish. I have had 4 large dogs in my house and no one is dead.
I suspect there's a lot more to the story than has been given out.

I have to agree with Sarahhound, I have 5 GSD's but I would not leave them alone with anyone in my house. All dogs are still pack animals and if one attacks the others will always join in, it's instinct. However I do think that something must be done to stop attacks like this, but what? The anti-dog brigade would undoubtedly like to see a total ban.

The thing is the anti dog brigade are given things to shout about!! And by the looks of it rightly so!!
Looks like there is a call from MP that government force legislation through.
We all know what happened last time they did this!! The current laws!!
Changes are needed, but they have to be the right changes.

Hope it won't lead to knee jerk reactions like the last time, as all dog owners will suffer. Some daft ideas have been aired already, like only allowing people to have one dog, when quite a few owners have 2 or 3 which are beautifully behaved.I used to get so annoyed at people scooping up their children when I had two perfectly behaved dogs, and gave the parent a filthy look. There were some ridiculous comments on the Jeremy Vine show this morning, you just end up shouting "shut up you idiot!!" Grrr! (Worth catching if you are in need of a rant.)And yes,the anti dog brigade are going to have a field day.

I saw this on the news last night and was going to post a thread about it but was too tired after a long day with my horses (its the school holidays ). I feel very deeply sorry for the girl, her family and all her friends. But, again, I agree with johnl and sarahound, it is okay in my opinion to have 3-4 or more big dogs in the same house, just as long as they are behaved enough to be in the house together. Before my Akitas passed away we had 5 dogs in the house and that was our 2 Akitas, Inka and Nushka, Charlie Boy our Westie, Roman our Cocker Spaniel and Rossi our Miniature Jack Russell. All males except for Nush. Our dogs were fine, before we had Charlie, Rossi and Roman we had our 2 Akitas, a GSD and a Doberman, they all got along well and were well-trained, no problems. I think the dogs must of been brought up wrong or something in order for them to attack for 'no' reason. At the end of the day I think people seem to forget that it doesn't matter how tame dogs may be, they are and always will be wild animals, I think some people need to respect that fact. I think more should of been found out about this story before the dogs were put down - personally. In the article I noticed how it mentioned 'they are trying to find out the specific breed of dogs to take further action' - does this mean that a certain breed is now going to be punished?!? This is a cruel and wrong world - Well, the people in it anyway. So very sad.

I have to agree with you all. I don't see anything wrong with having that number of dogs, providing they're brought up properly and all get along okay etc. Migsy, Jeremy Vine also got a LOT of people's backs up on Twitter. www.twitter.com/theJeremyVine if anyone's interested in reading through his tweets. I may have a listen to his show on iplayer later on. He seems very biased against Staffies for no apparent reason other than he believes all the bad press without taking into account the whole story.

It is unfortunately getting worse for all dogs I think Orpheous. The thing with most people is that everyone wants 'designer dogs' or 'toy breeds'. No one is interested in going on long, enjoyable walks with their dogs anymore, its just all about the looks of their dog and what they can dress them up in. This is a real shame! A dog is a dog, not a baby. Staffies are lovely lovely little dogs which need more appreciation!

AL, one of the dogs which was destroyed was a cross and they needed to ascertain if it was pit bull or american bull. I think (don't quote me) that it has been proven to be american bull and therefore legal breed. All hearsay via articles but I have seen an article that has said the bull mastiff was uncomfortable around small screaming children which made him lets say growl'y. It was something on the owners FB page I believe, which said she had him castrated to try and solve the problem. On a separate note the incident involving the white SBT type dog and the caviler, the dog has paid the price for its owners irresponsibility www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-21964265

So in total how many dogs have been put down?
Caz, I think all the dogs were legal - apparently anyway.
I don't know what to think, I am quite confused myself because I am not sure on whether it is actually the dogs' fault, the owners or maybe the girls? She could of been intimidating the dogs?

They will never know now. I don't get why a 14 year old was on her own, in a strange house, with 5 large dogs. Who knows what happened, but I still blame the parents/dog owner. Somethings not right with the whole story, and I don't think it was right that the dogs were killed without knowing the full story.

I am scared of big dogs and any dog that runs up to me. My sister has 2 akitas and I am always wary of one of them the other killed one of her kittens( don't know the full story on that). When I take our dog out I always make sure he is on a lead if people/dogs approach, although he has never shown any aggression, I still wouldn't trust him or the other dogs. Once on a walk a golden retreiver approached us (off lead) and kept circling us until the girl eventually got hold of it.

From what i have read it seems the girl went into the house eating a meat pie,the dogs were said to be going for the girls throat but i would imagine they would have been more interested in the meat pie.very sad .
