Well the forum is still new for now, I think once it really gets going and everyone gets to know everyone, it will be friendlier and easier to have a debate.

PFT - I think you just have to give it time for people to get settled and then normal posting will start. I don't think you should ever stop yourself from giving your opinion but I think it always needs to be said in a nice way, like someone else just said before me but can't tell you who cause the silly forum wont go back that far?!?!? Like scallywag said I always add smiles too, so even if I don't agree with someone or say something that could be taken wrongly they hopefully will realise I'm not having a go or being horrid.

I love debates!!!! LOVE THEM!!!!! Even if they are directed at me, I just love them!!! (to an extent, obviously I don't like insults flying at me but I do like to argue with people every now and then..... ) But I find that its hard to really debate about things anymore because we have all been there done that. And sometimes when we do get into a good 'discussion' with somebody as soon as they hear something they don't like they pack their bags and leave. I too get annoyed with chit chat in threads. Ok, I know that I have done it this week on a few threads but only in an attempt to keep it alive. What really annoys me is people who introduce themselves mid topic! A small word of welcome and an 'enjoy the forum' is fine but some people I find describe themselves and their dogs and then post pictures of their dogs, that just eats away at me. I mean, do you really have to do it in the middle of a topic where advice is wanted, not introductions? ?? Ok, I'm done now.

I know what you mean about saying things nicely Gladys, but I first came on the YD forum to discuss and debate, not partake solely of idle chatter. While idle chatter is sometimes fine, I believe it has currently taken over the entire forum, and some members whose posts I REALLY enjoyed reading, aren't posting any more I just miss the old YD, I don't think, if the members who aren't posting continue not to post, that it will ever be the same again.

I know what you saying but still think you have to give it time. New forums are always like this to begin with, the YD forum was like this when it first started. People will get settled and then the real posting will begin, I'm sure.

Sounds like we are all mourning the loss of the old forum,I certainly am.I still find it difficult to dip in and out and find the interesting threads quickly, and find I am not so eager as it takes me far too long when I haven't much time.We all got used to it after the first change as it was still quite similar, but we still managed to lose a number of members, but this one is so totaly different and is going to take me longer. Buuuuttt as has already been said, better than no forum at all.

Agree with you migsy, it's so much more difficult to pick out threads of interest now

I see where you're coming from too, PFT and I have to agree to a certain extent. It does seem a little more censored here at the moment, but I'm sure that once we're all used to each other, that'll work out and it'll slowly get back to how it used to be. I know I've been guilty of chit chatting in threads, but I do try to keep it to my own threads rather than take over someone else's thread! Like Bextull said, the introductions mid-thread are a bit more annoying than chit chat. I know it's hard to introduce yourself if someone doesn't post a thread in the 'introduce yourself' section but maybe it would be better practice for people to say 'hi, welcome to the forum! psst, introduce yourself so we can get to know you!' or something? I like debates, although I tend to not join in with them too much as I often agree with something that other people have said and don't want to repeat it! I haven't been as active on here this week because Ellie and I have been training for our bronze good citizen test and I've been absolutely knackered when I've got in! The test is tonight so hopefully I'll have more time from today

If I have all the time in the world I use the recent thread section to see new posts. But if I haven't got time to read posts from cat, dog, fish etc I just use the drop down section when hovering over the dog part. It is big on here but I'm slowly getting a feel for the place. It's also nice to have new faces to talk to. P.s orpheous87 - been sending you positive thoughts for tonight. Hope it goes well.

Just joined this forum, previously on the YD forum. Had found it difficult to sort out what was going on, maybe that's the reason for the lack of participants.
Given time the forum will be running as before, hopefully.
Did everyone else have to go through the joining process, or were you redirected.
