I was actually thinking the same thing earlier Bextull However as these stones would smell nasty would dog just learn that smelly stones are not good? Surely dogs can smell things like the bitter spray? As well as a strong leave a strong drop is also useful. I imagine he has a good drop for the ball throwing games.

No idea, Oscar loved bitter spray, and lemons and citronella. I suppose you will only know if you try it

I never knew stones were smelly! Obviously are to dogs - most things are - dogs have incredible noses!

Oscar had to be contrary then Bextull BT, I meant by spraying or coating stones in something nasty tasting dogs would be able to pick up on these odors. Once faced with a normal stone it may still pick it up as it can tell its not the same as the ones which smelled funny (tasted bad).
The only things I know my dogs will keep totally clear of is mustard and horseradish sauce

And vinegar, and despite the fact that he wont eat lettuce if its handed to him, if I am eating it he will beg for it! He is not a fan of liver cake though! I have a strange, strange dog!

Oscar certainly sounds unique, Bextull!! As for the bitter spray idea, I was actually thinking of something like that myself, but I didn't know whether it would be a good idea or not! I'll definitely mention that one to her. He has a semi decent 'leave' command, but with his ball, he sometimes just sits and waits for you to physically take the ball out of his mouth because my friend's son has trained him to let people take something out of his mouth - obviously a good idea in theory but it probably shouldn't have been trained with a ball! I'll suggest the clicker idea too. He's got 6 weeks to recover now, so I expect he's going to be restricted to garden only exercise, which could be exactly what is needed to try and train him out of the behaviour. BT - He does always have a ball with him on walks. As Caz pointed out, it's more the garden that's a problem really, so hopefully one of these ideas will work. He's such an active dog that I feel really sorry for them having to keep him inside for 6 weeks! Thank you for the ideas everyone

Mental games will help pass the 6 weeks confinement, out with the kongs, random treat dispensing toys etc. Can use time to brush up on some fun training as well as the obvious things which might help with problem.
Good luck

Yes, mind games are excellent to play indoors and out - keep the dog's brain active

Yep, that's what I was thinking. I don't know if they have a Kong for him, but I'll definitely be suggesting that they get one for him.

She doesn't feed kibble because he won't eat it! He gets Chappie, because he wouldn't eat anything else. Although the other week, when Pepper was off colour, so was he and Lynn (that's his owner) said that it had put him off the Chappie! So god knows what she manages to feed him. She said some days he'll eat and some days he won't. Pepper used to be like that until I changed her food, but I don't want to sound like I'm banging on about feeding other food.

Kong is perfect then as that's meat stuff-able My dogs go crazy for Chappie, I always say its there occasional pig out on something different. Its my staple for bad bellies, feed with rice Therefore I cant say anything too bad about it Though I know its not the best when you look at what is in it but who is to argue with the dogs choice occasionally!! Mine also do the doggy dancing excitement for the lily kitchen we both feed so I guess I have dogs who love either end of the quality scale

See, I tried to give Pepper Chappie when she wasn't well, and she turned her nose up! But if he won't eat anything else then what can I say? lol Haha, sounds about right! I'm sure my two would eat Bakers if they were given the chance!
