I recently bought a maine coon kitten, and 2 weeks after he came to live with us he developed a head tilt and an upset tummy. We took him to the vet and the vet said that Yogi had a middle ear infection and possibly worms and treated him for this. They also took blood and tested for FIP leukaemia felv and several other things that came back normal. They also did a stool test that came back with something called compylobactor and the vet then put Yogi on a stronger antibiotic. By this time yogi was having walking difficulties and intermittent blindness. The same night I had given yogi his first lot of the new AB yogi collapsed and we went straight to the vet. This was quite late at night and the vet told us to take him home and that he would refer us to the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket the next day, when we got there yogi couldn't walk at all and the neurologist did an MRI scan and a spinal tap and it was found that yogi had inflammation in his spine and it was caused by an infection. I cannot praise the AHT enough as we have had yogi home just over a week and the blindness has gone, and he is walking, playing with my other cats and best of all he is putting on weight. Which he wasn't doing before we finally found out what was wrong with him, I just wanted to share this as we have been to hell and back worrying over this little man and I am so pleased that he is getting stronger every day. viv xx

Oh my goodness, what a worry for you. So glad that the vets finally found out what was wrong with Yogi and that he is much better now. I have 7 cats and 2 of them are Maine Coons - they are a gorgeous breed. What colour is Yogi?

Yogi is a brown Tabby, now that he is getting better he is proving to be very cheeky lol, I also have 2 Ragdolls and a beautifull big black moggy. It was a dreadful worry and I never thought yogi would pull through but the people at Newmarket are just brilliant, I am just so grateful that yogi is on the mend.

Sorry to hear that little Yogi had such a traumatic start to his life I can't believe that after a kitten collapsed, a vet would just tell you to go home! Vets should take it especially seriously if it's a young animal with a problem as worrying as this :\ Anyway, glad to hear that he's making a good recovery and can finally begin his life with your family!

Vets should take it especially seriously if it's a young animal with a problem as worrying as this :\ Anyway, glad to hear that he's making a good recovery and can finally begin his life with your family! Thank you Avansa. I have had a couple of setbacks with Yogi since he came back from the Animal Health Trust. He keeps getting an upset tummy and my vet thinks its all the ABs he has had in his short life. We had to rush him back to the vet last Saturday as his tummy was badly upset, but with some electrolytes and ID food we have got his tummy better he did lose weight again last Saturday but is putting it on again.we are weighting him every other day and he is now 2.11kg where as last Saturday he had dropped again to 1.84 kg.i have tried to put pictures of him on here but I only have my iPad, and the forum says the pictures are too big, I can't use hubby's laptop as it is windows 8 and I can't get my head around it. I have put some pictures on Facebook of Yogi playing with Purdy my JRT and getting the better of her bless her she is so good with him. I don't know if you would be able to see them but I am vivien Lambert on FB. The vet wouldn't do anything for Yogi that night as he was sending me to the AHT the next day, and didn't want to do anything that would interfere with any treatment that they would give him. I must say though it was a terrifying night and I wouldn't like to go through that again. viv xx

vivien sorry to hear Yogi keeps getting an upset tummy, especially too such an extent that he's needing electrolytes & losing weight. I hope this is just a case of needing to fully recover and/or finding the right food, do you think he has a sensitive stomach? How old is he now? As to photos, don't worry about the message, you're not doing anything wrong. There is a problem with uploading photos directly from your computer as there is only a limited amount of space on the forum for photos loaded that way & its currently full. The other option, which does work OK, is to use a hosting service such as flickr or photobucket. There is an FAQ index & that has links on how to load photos & also how to get the appropriate links from those 2 hosting services. For the index click here . Hope you can posting the photos on the forum sorted as we'd love to see Yogi & friends on here (me especially as I'm not on facebook ) If you need any more help don't hesitate to ask
