This is particularly for anyone 'out in the sticks' Does anyone have any recommendations for a good internet service provider? We're mostly interested in how fast your internet is but also how cheap it is XD We play a lot of games online and obviously use the computer a lot for things like coming on here, so we need a good fast wireless broadband and BT are CRAP HELP!?

We are out in the Suffolk sticks and we both work from home. Wireless BT is groovy for us here.

Hi, my BF works for BT he can check the speeds you are currently getting and also speeds that you could get.
Unfortunately the further away you are from the exchange the longer the copper wire is.
Whilst this isn't a problem for phone calls, Broadband uses a different signal that gets weaker the further it travels down a copper wire.
If you PM me your phone number he can check now as he has access to the system.

Thanks petitsfilous but don't worry about it, we did a test with BT online using our phone number XD Didn't mean to offend about BT being crap they are...but I'm sure your BF isn't! The speed you can get with BT is rarely as good as you can get with other people >.< and their customer service isn't the best. My fam have been with BT for years, not really by choice, and we aren't the best of friends with them, having always had problems! At the moment O2 and Plusnet are looking like the best options for us, anyone with either of these and have an opinion on them? They're the top two on moneysavingexpert.com Thanks for the replies, guys

and BT are CRAP HELP!? YES- we live not 4 miles from our telephone exchange yet our connection is the pits. The excuse we get is...you live in the Highlands of Scotland in a rural area---my butt cheeks!!!!! We live in Inverness-THE major city and capital of the Highlands. For BT read BLOODY TERRIBLE. Sorry for the vent,

Have you looked at Plusnet? I've been with them for a few years without any problem and also get Mcafee internet security included. Not sure how fast you will find it, I'm quite rural in mid Wales and only get about 4meg.

We are on Plusnet and find them excellent. Here in Mid Wales we get a download speed of, typically, 13 Mb/s which is brilliant (just done a speed test & it's over 13Mb/s). Before moving to Plusnet (to get a higher monthly limit; now unlimited) we were with Waitrose which was also operated by Plusnet and, again, speed and customer service were first class. We have had no significant problems, and minor problems are automatically identified, sorted, and fixed by Plus Net Assist. We also have our phone service with Plusnet including free UK calls at all times - and for a modest additional payment you can opt for certain international calls as well. Our total experience with Plusnet (initially via Waitrose) is about six years - and we wouldn't swap to another provider.

My family use Plusnet too, it's very fast. As far as I know they're good prices otherwise my dad wouldn't be paying for it!

Not sure how fast you will find it, I'm quite rural in mid Wales and only get about 4meg. Given that Johnl is only about four miles from us, I was surprised at the big drop in speed compared to us! But we are not very far from the exchange, hence, I suppose, we benefit greatly.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, but looks like we'll just carry on with BT, against our better judgement it's easiest, and they've lowered the price for us and said that fibre optic will be installed in our area "soon"
