This is the latest edition to our family, little George Video 1 Video 2 We found him last night in the middle of a busy country road, when we first saw him he almost was hit by a car, but dad turned the car around and we picked him up, barley is not at all phased by his screeching in the car, after a bit of screeching he fell asleep in my hand, where we found him he was on a bend with steep slopes either side so he could not get out of the road, he had some bread softened in water last night and had a very long drink of water, so he was very thirsty. This morning he had some scrambled egg which he again gobbled up, he is finding his water bowl great fun as he will sit in it, even though his feathers are not water proof yet, he spent last night in my bedroom in a box, he was very quite until about 4 in the morning, but he was getting a bit cold so i held him for a little bit and he went to sleep again, he had a run around the carpet this morning when the photos were taken and he went outside on the grass for a bit as well, he is going to be staying with my grand parents whilst we are on holiday ( great timing geroge ). He does not like my parents holding him as he will nibble them but lets me hold him and feed him, he is savage when you put food in front of him he will bite your hand and the food, but i still love him. my brothers are scared to hold him, but i am not, cause he is so cute, i will update more about him later

My granddad rears his own chicks and ducklings, by the looks of it George is only about 1 week or so. Have you considered getting meal for him? I know my Granddad keeps a heat lamp on his for the first 2 weeks or so, so make sure he stays warm. Are you positive he's a George and not Georgina?

Hiya puppypal are you looking after him till he flies off. I did that a few years ago and it's hard work but very rewarding. Can I give a little help just in case you don't know?? No harm?? He will need a heat lamp for the next few weeks. He needs water at all times so he can wash out his beak. Feed him chick meal and then chicken food. Meal worms are a great source of protein for a growing duck, but not to much. A tray of water will also be good so he can wash his self but as you say as the feathers are not water proof yet make sure his feet can touch the bottom so he doesn't sink!! Good luck. Edit. judypops beat me to it while i was typing.

Are you positive he's a George and not Georgina? we don't know, if we call him george we can change it to goergina, he was in my bedroom in a box last night with a towel and fluffy blanket to snuggle up to, i kept checking him to make sure he was nice and warm. i dont know how to tell the age of a duck, he can't fly, and is a little unsteady on his feet, i might give him a warm blanket tonight to keep him warm. If you see your grandad can you ask him what else he can eat, some of mums friends who have ducks suggest bread in milk, which he had last night and gobbled down, he was also very thirsty and hungry

Yeah they are perfect puppypal If your going to P@H you can get mealworms too. Hot water bottle wrapped in newspaper would be good for night times. Ducks are very messy and the floor must be keep dry in at least half their enclosure or their feet will get rot. I was cleaning ours (stripe) out at least 4 times a day. I must just repeat that a small bowl of water must be available 24 hours is VERY important. (That's where the mess comes from, shaking their wet beak after cleaning and standing in the water bowl). And then once a day if it's warm you could have him out in the garden with a tray of water to have a splash in. But they are fast on their feet so make a play pen with chicken wire if possible because my stripe managed to get through the holes in Coopers puppy pen!!

I'd say so. Unfortunately my granddad lives 90 minutes away and isn't the type for phones. I kinda just guessed the age because when I usually stay up at my grandparents he has eggs in the incubator that hatch. He has ducks and chickens together so they get the same food. Like gladys said, lots of water, especially with the hot weather.
