Thank you BorderTerrier thats very sweet of you. If and when he has the operation then I'll be able to find the money. But before we get to that we're trying the injections first as is less invasive and less trauma for him.

cazypops Oh I'm so sorry to hear this. Sending you both big ((hugs)) I read somewhere (wish I could remember where) that you shouldn't rush in to hip surgery when there are other options as there is then no going back. Some times taking the on going treatment and coming up with a special exercise plan can help improve the problem long term. I might have read it in the YD magazine or one of the books I got from the library but I discussed it with a friend as she had her youngest Boston operated on and wish she had left it and tried other things first. Just throwing it out there not trying to confuse you or make things worse.

After sleeping on thing and talking it through we feel the injection root is the best way to go for now. If when he gets older, and its not worked then we'll have another think about the surgery. We have to restrict his running about and jumping around, as he's been doing too much. But how do you tell the poor little lad this. It's not so bad during the day as he's out in the van with the other half, it between 5 and 9 in the evening, he thinks its play time.

I must say, when giving Jasp his tablets (he has them twice a day) thank god for sausages! I push the tablet into a piece of sausage to give him, and it doesn't even touch the sides.

LOL! I'm like this with squirty primula cheese. However, he does occasionally lick the cheese off and spit the tablet out. It goes down the second time though. I think he just wants more cheese

Oh I'm so glad that helped cazypops rather than hindered!! As for the evening play times could you teach him another slow pace games? Like finding treats in boxes or finding toys by name?? Glad his taking the tablets ok. Keep us posted and remember we are all here to listen and support if you did it.

Get him to find treats under certain cups, or buy a set from a pet shop. Sets are great - they include flaps and crevices for your dog to discover - Jasper would really appreciate it Good luck!

cazypops was it last night Jasp had his first injection ? or am I confused ? No your not confused, I forgot to update. actually until last night I thought it was his first jab but it wasn't it was the second. He was brilliant, no bother at all. So I can now give more info. He has to have these injections for 4 week, then once a month for 4 months then twice a year. They are to help promote growth of cartilage and fluid to fill the space above the femur head. And thankfully he does seem to be walking better on the leg now. I asked about the hip replacement and Chris (the vet) said that as the operation is still experimental he's reluctant to send him for the op as we'd be paying for it, and Β£3500-Β£4000 is a lot of money with no guarantees it will work. If we'd had him insured then that would be different as we wouldn't be paying for it.

They all seem to love him at the vets, I know he loves going. When we took him last night as soon as we turned the corner he knew where he was and he was chomping at the bit to get out of the van, his little tail was going ten to the dozen, it's funny really as I've never known a dog like him. All my other dogs hated going to the vets.

Glad to hear the injections & vet visits are going well and Jasper seems to feel better for them.
I must admit I've not known or seen any dogs that liked going to the vets - Jasper is a one-off!
