Good luck with your work experience. I did mine this year and it was great. You might see some upsetting things but you get great hands on experience, especially with cleaning in my case.

Today was amazing, i loved it. the staff are really friendly and i felt like i had been there for ages instead of just one day. The start of the day was booking in patients for surgery, they was rosey the ginger cat to be spayed, dennis the old grumpy cat to have his teeth cleaned, gizmo the yorkie cross for castration, eddie the greyhound for an x-ray, peanut the hamster for his teeth filing down and a rabbit for bloods. gizmo was so cute, even though he looked like a gremlin , rosey was also a very cute kitten, i loved her she was so sweet. Dennis actually didnt have his teeth cleaned as he had to have a blood test and he had a kidney problem so he could not be put under anesthetic. eddie has his x-ray but had to be put to sleep as the x-ray showed that he had bone cancer, he was 10 years old and an ex-racer so it was the kindest thing to do . peanut was a funny little character, he would not go to sleep, he kept fighting it, and after he had had his teeth grinded down and he was half asleep he decided to have a go on his wheel, he is a very athletic hamster, but he has to come in about every month to have his teeth grinded down cause they grow so fast and at an odd angle.
During the day i observed quite a few consults with the nurse, there was a husky with a cut foot who had come to have his foot re-bandaged , a staffy x rottweiler who had also had a cut foot and was having its stitches checked up on, a kitten came for its jabs and flea stuff and my last consult of the day was jake a sort of collie cross thingy who had just moved vets, he was so cute and i loved him.

Sounds like you had a good mix on your first day, some a bit sad but not hidden from you & a real part of the job. It would have been interesting to see the professional attitude for the client & probably the more personal once the client wasn't there. Glad everyone made you feel welcome & you enjoyed your day

scallywag today was even better. i will start with all the boring stuff first. there were 4 cats in today one to be spayed, one to be castrated, one to have a blood and urine test and the last one had to have the tip of its tail amputated as it had caught it in a door and ripped of all the skin just leaving the bone sticking out. cat castration is really quick and easy nothing like dog castration. i have not seen a dog spay yet but probably will by the end of the week. there was one Labrador in for x-ray, he was very noisy and just wanted lots of cuddles and kisses my kind of dog. I did not see as many consults today, one weight check on a crossbreed, one check up on a collie cross that had been suffering for anemia very badly and almost died and has been on treatment for 6 months but has finally stopped and they are hoping for no relapses. there was a basset x whippet x beagle who had a sore paw. Now my most exiting part of the day, i loved this. There was a cavalier that had come in cause it had given birth this morning to 4 puppies but the owner thought that there were more puppies to come out, but there were not, while the mum was being x-rayed i got to cuddle and stroke the puppies , this was the absolute highlight of my day, there 3 ginger ones and one black one, two of the ginger ones started to suck my fingers, it was the strangest yet most heart warming feeling ever, they kept squeaking and wriggling and pushing into my hand for warm, and they were only hours old, this has been the highlight of my two days so far, it was amazing.
