My issue came through the door two days ago and I have already read it all. The puppy buying guides are always of interest to me and I'm especially looking forward to Septembers issue I liked the 'brush up on your grooming' and I see it's the first part of a new series. I'm guessing you will mention nail clipping somewhere down the line. I see dogs daily with overgrown nails and I always feel a pang of sadness. Some owners just don't realise the health implications that can occur when nails are left to grow too long I have been finding the 5 minute training tips really beneficial as well as Bernie has real selective hearing when it comes to his recall but it is improving now! Thank you Oh and I really found the feature on Bull Breed discrimination interesting. I just love everything in the mag really. lol

I liked the first part of the new Brush Up On Your Grooming series! It highlights important points about the benefits of grooming and how to find a good groomer - plus what a salon should be like in condition.
I am looking forward to future issues which include the other parts of this great new series!
- I was also a bit confused however when it showed how neat and tidy a grooming salon should be - and then on the picture above, you saw groomer Mark Davies' salon with hair and dirt all over the floor! Quite confusing!!

BT, I would think when they say a salon should be clean and tidy, they mean in between clients. When a dog is actually being clipped, it will be impossible to keep the floor clean and tidy! The picture clearly shows two groomers (one of which I assume is Mark Davies) working, which probably explains the hair on the floor. I don't think you can claim that it's dirt because the picture isn't clear enough.

The grooming article will be very useful to owners!
The salon I work at are fully insured, groomers are qualified (bar me as I'm training) and display all qualifications in the reception area. We see a lot of dogs coming in that have been ruined (coat wise or behaviourally) by other, unexperienced/unqualified groomers.
However we rarely allow people past reception as they are not insured to be there. We're only ever there when we have dogs in and no-one has asked to view before making an appointment so I'm not sure what would happen then, but I'd imagine that wouldn't be a problem.
Also, I agree that a salon should be kept clean and tidy but we average out at 15-20 dogs per day. All coming in at half hour intervals so sometimes sweeping up gets pushed back a bit. We keep it as clean as possible throughout the day and it gets a good going over at the end of the day.
I'd be worried if I went into a really old, grotty salon though!
