Hi all im new to this forum (only posted in introduction before) and hope some of you might be able to help...
My kitten Boo went for his kitten check last Tuesday and the vet said hes fine and a good weight etc... Ive been this morning for his first vaccination and she said he has only put on 60g in the week and he should be putting on 100+g a week. She told me to leave food down all the time and when he finishes give him more... Which i will do from now on... But he will only eat his Dry (royal canin weaning food) food when wet(Whiskers) is mixed with it... So should i always mix more up and give him it and leave it down? or should i give him wet mixed say 4 times a day and leave dry down all the time?
I could always ring the vet and ask but thought id post here to see if anyone else has had the same thing...
Thanks for reading xx

Welcome to the forum. I love your kitten Boo, he's so sweet. I think the dried food mixed with the wet is a good idea especially as he seems to like it that way - just offer him more of it.
I have 7 cats and my 2 youngest are now 2 years old so I can still remember them being kittens! I used to leave dried food down for them. Only thing to watch out for is that if you do leave dried food down make sure you see Boo drink plenty of water. I have a Maine Coon called Kiba-Khan who is 6 and when he was still with his breeder he got pushed out and only ate the dried food that was left down and ended up with constipation which he still suffers with now.
You could also try introducing some cat treats such as the Webbox sticks which I know are quite fattening for adult cats - not looked to see if they do kitten ones.

Like lotsofcats I would continue to give Boo the mix of wet & dried. Are you able to top it up during the day? I realise that's not possible if you have to go out to work etc. That would be ideal as you could keep it fresh as wet left all day tends to go rather horrible however he won't suffer if it is left all day. I wonder if increasing the mix of dried with the wet might help him eat the dried - but then it could have the reverse affect - you'll know him much better than me Cats do have their personal tastes, one of ours only eats moist & the other 3 a combination but in differing proportions of dried to moist. Good luck, let us know how Boo progresses.

Hi lotsofcats and tonib, Thank you both for your replys, He wont eat dry food at all with out the wet mixed with it. As i left some down today and he has not touched it... I am about all day so i will just keep feeding him the mix maybe 6-8 times a day. And add more if he finishes the bowl... He is quite picky as he did leave some of his mixed food earlyer and would not eat it once it dryed out abit so i through it away and made some more and he ate it lol... I will just keep topping him up all day when i can... and see how he goes... He did seem more sleepy since his vaccination and not wanting to play as much... just wants more cuddles xx

Hi all... Just wanted to let you all know that ive been weighing Boo (with my kitchen scales, which are not digital so not very accurate) and it seems since tue when he had his jabs he has put on about 100kg. when i started he weighed about 750kg and now when i just put him on it he is 850kg. I know it is not very accurate but it cant be that off can it...?? Im glad hes putting it on to be honest and ive been feeding him 6-8 times a day and leaving mixed down all the time so he can eat when he wants and i think its working xx

Glad to hear Boo is putting on weight. Is he more active now he's recovered from the "trauma" (form his viewpoint) of the jabs?
Is he eating his mix of food or has he managed to eat any dried only yet?

Hi. Just thought I'd give you a heads up. With the weather being warm I have the door open and flies get in, so I have to keep a close eye on the cats food as some times when I've gone to refresh their food, there are fly eggs on the bit of food left in their bowls. Glad Boos putting weight on now.

The day he had his jabs he was sleepy tonib and i could tell he was not his usual playful self... But the next day he was back to normal and running and playing about all day What do fly eggs look like cazypops? Im guessing just small round eggs... i will be looking out for them now... as we do get 1 or 2 in but im trying my hardest to keep them out!! xx

I found some yesterday, if I'd thought about it I'd have taken a photo of them.

its always hard to no what to do isn't it, my girl was always a fussy kitten, but I leave dry down all day so she can graze and only give her wet food in the morning and evening when im home, so I can keep an eye on when she doesnnt eat her wet food, if she doesn't eat it after 20 mins it gets thrown out. I was told by someone in a pet shop that bad bactria grows quickly in wet food after 20 mins.....its very rare that it doesn't get eaten tho lo

I'm glad Boo is okay after his first vaccination and now seems to be putting on weight. It does make some kittens a bit quieter for a few hours and some don't seem any different. With reference to the flies eggs on food I have noticed them on my cats food that I leave out in the cat pen for them so I now leave food out for about half an hour only and remove it if there's any left.

Just so you know what to look for I took this earlier. The food was ok and hour earlier, the next time I checked it had flies eggs on it. PS, sorry the pic is so big. Photobucket editor doesn't seem to be working.

Hello all! I am new on this forum and I wondering if anyone have tried to feed their cats on raw food? I have seen good and bad comments on this subject and would like to have more advise.
