:)Well everyone seems to have some interesting jobs, I am a Medical Administrator i work at a Medical Centre and i have been their for 10 years now,it is a very busy practice and i don't get 2 minutes i only work part time though mainly because of doggie commitments.
Although my ideal job would be to work with animals i have even done a Diploma in Animal Health Care but not many jobs come up and i would only really beable to take on part time hours because of Riley. I would love to work from home like Gladys that way i could be on hand for Riley.
:)Isn't it weird though i many people change career directions as they get older when i left school all i ever wanted to do was work with the elderly and i worked in several care homes upto having my son but now all i really want to do is work with animals.Has anybody else wanted to change careers?

I only changed careers because of a back injury. If it wasn't for that I would still be working with children, running the preSchool or within a school. But then if I was doing that I probably wouldn't have Cooper?!?

I'm an accounting technician. When I left school I went to art college but then ended up working in a petrol station until I had my children. I then went to evening classes for 5 years to gain my Association of Accounting Technicians qualification and also HNC in Business Administration. I've been in my current job for 20 years.

Interesting at the number who work with either children or animals. I work in a comprehensive school as the accountant. Its an interesting place to work and i have the joy of working with children but not in the classroom - couldn't stand the stress of that. My wife is a retired teacher, think she gave up coz of leaving one set of kids to come home to another big one.
So to you young uns about to take your GCSE's/A levels - good luck and keep up with the revision.

Chantel, yes I would love to change direction in my working life but have a house so need to pay the bills so bit stuck I guess!! Work with lovely people though. Been doing what I do for last 6+ yrs. Probably would struggle financially if I was to start over! Before that I had seasonal work. Done two related subject degrees. Started a PhD but had to give that up as I became ill Best job I ever had was working as a car park attendant / recruiter at local estate for the NT. Would love to work with animals (namely dogs) or do something along the lines of countryside management. Would consider farm work as long as it was livestock. Was hoping Gladys would let me join the pet shop idea

Can I join you too Gladys? That's an extra staff member and dog for you as well... Regarding work... It's been mostly with children and briefly with adults but all I have ever wanted to do is work with animals (dogs and wolves mainly). I did my work experience for a week in an elderly peoples nursing home, I had wanted an animal placement first followed by one in childcare but these are always the first to be booked up fast. The home was badly run by a lot of racist foreign staff who were horrible to their elderly clients and I sadly hated every minute of it there. When I finished and left secondary school I went straight to work in a private day nursery where I got a level two qualification in child care and education. The children were 3 months - 5 years old when I started there and the nursery open from 8am-6pm mon-fri but by the time I left they were taking babies from 6 weeks old and were trying to be allowed to be open from 7am-7pm because many of their customers wanted longer days, some of those parents of 6 wk olds told us they literally woke them up, brought them to us and went to work, we fed, changed, put to sleep, played with, and taught them during the day, then the parents would collect them, take them home and put them straight to bed before repeating the routine the next day. I know people need to work and so need child care but it seemed so sad for them to barely see them when they are so young. We used to witness many first steps and words etc before the parents did... After that I worked as a lunchtime controller at my old primary school. At the same time as this I ran my own breakfast club there where children could come and have breakfast (obv!) and they also got to do some simple exercises through sport type games with their friends to get the brain and body going first thing in the morning which helped improve their work in class. I also helped run an after school and school holiday club where the children could get help with their homework etc and do activities with their friends whilst getting healthy snacks. Needing more money for bills etc as I was soon to be moving out and so requiring a job with more hours I started to work at a respite care home for adults aged 18-70ish who had varying mental and physical disabilities. I did this for a few months but it was very stressful with night and day shifts and some of the clients behaviours were too hard to put up with, for eg getting spat at, scratched, bitten and having my hair pulled hard sometimes all on a daily basis. So back to child care it was as I knew it so well. I started working where I am now at a different primary school and have been here for 6 years now. I started as a lunchtime controller (again!) and learning support assistant to a lovely boy with autism and other behavioural difficulties (I am always being told I have a knack for working with special needs and other issues). Then when he moved up to secondary school the primary school asked me to remain with them as a teaching assistant and still do the lunchtimes too. (A lucky break as normally when you are contracted to work 1-1 with a statemented child your job ends when they leave...). All my free time is devoted to Lola with family and friends coming a close 2nd place lol. Having written an essay I'll now hush up

I think I have room for one more happy co-worker and their doggy. Welcome aboard the maddest and fun Pet Shop ever!!! I also worked in a day nursery, was my first job after collage. When I ran baby room we would often see first steps and hear first words. After the first time of telling the parents and seeing their disappointed faces because they had missed it I never told again. I would then have to act surprised the next day when they told of the first steps that happened the night before.

Ha! We had that too Gladys! We had some parents demand we not tell them then others (with late blooming kids) would beg us to know if they'd done anything yet lol. Fun times.
