Just to let everyone know that Mickey was put to sleep on the 17th of June The vet came out to us so that he could go peacefully at home, on his blanket which he loved so much. They gave him a sedative first so he had no idea what was going on, and wasn't stressed out at all. It was the right time for him and I'm glad that we waited those extra two weeks or so because he had a few nice sunny days out in the garden over that time and lots of raw chicken and tuna! Having spent about 15 years of my life with him, it's so strange to not have him around constantly meowing for food. I haven't been able to face writing this until now, but I do take comfort in the fact that it was definitely the right time for him to go. We were originally just going to wait for him to go in his sleep, but he couldn't really walk and couldn't get up to go to the toilet, and that just isn't fair and it was heartbreaking to see him that way - especially as he's always been so independent. He is now in a nice sunny spot in the garden that he used to like laying in (and used for escaping the garden when he wasn't supposed to!) and we're searching for a nice plant to put there in his memory that reminds us of him.

So sad for you, but what a good way for you all to say goodbye to Mickey. You chose to do the best thing for him. He had a good life with you and an extra special last 2 weeks.
RIP Mickey

Oh so sad leaking eyes here now. So sorry for your loss, the bravest thing you can do for a loved one is to know when the right time comes for them to go back to the Bridge, young and playfull again and out of pain Thinking of you Avansa and Pawsforthought Take me to where my needs they'll tend, Only, stay with me till the end. And hold me firm and speak to me Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree It is a kindness you do to me. Although my tail its last has waved, From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must now be you Who has to decide this thing to do. We've been so close - we two -these years, Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Thank you so much guys it's been a very hard one. We all miss him so much every day, the house feels a lot emptier without him. We've kept ourselves busy wildlife volunteering and everyone there is very understanding and supportive so that's helped a bit.

So sorry to hear the sad news of Mickey. Although you knew it would happen at some point soon it doesn't make it any easier when it happens. He looked a lovely cat & he would have appreciated the care & attention you gave him & especially the last act of love you could give. He'll now be enjoying himself, feeling young & well again at Rainbow Bridge. A plant will be a lovely memorial to him

So sorry to hear about Mickey but you know when the time is right to let them go, but it still breaks your heart. At least Mickey went at home with all his loved ones, and its nice that you have a special place in the garden. I wish i had been brave enough to bring my girls home it is my only regret but we couldn't face it at the time, although i have a tree for for each of them at the bottom of the garden but it dosn't feel the same. R.I.P. Mickey Lots of love xx
