I remember vet on one programme ages ago saying having dogs anal glands emptied regularly by groomers instead of when there is a problem, can lead to the muscle which helps to expel the horrible stuff normally when defecating becoming weaker ,so making the problem with the anal glands worse. Skip had two instances of this when he was younger, and he screamed when vet emptied them the second time,it was horrible to hear.(didn't help with his fear of vets either.)He was fine after changing to J.W.B.Turkey and veg kibble.

I must say Migsy, we will only empty if its requested. Ive never heard that before but I havent made a habit of emptying Jasper's. He doesn't seem like he's having problems now that he's regularly eating his Dave and Barney so hoping we dont have any more problems!

Since Cooper had a problem with one getting infected he gets his checked at the vets along with his yearly boost jabs. So far they have not been full but have needed emptying. Lets hope once a year wont hurt?? But I think I will take the chance as he was in so much pain when it got infected and I don't want him going through that again. Although he never made a sound when vet had to squeeze his swollen gland and it must have hurt so much. Bless him. Like Migsy dog, Cooper eats JWB kibble and has lots of carrot, I think the problem only happened because we went away for the first time in a B&B and he didn't poop properly while we were away from home.
