Had Katy in the pub last night, and heard someone saying they're phoning the 'RSPCA' (we don't even have the RSPCA here, I assume they mean the SSPCA!) tomorrow (well, today now) about her, because its obvious she doesn't get fed and there's something horribly wrong with her, because 'you could play the xylophone on those ribs'. Several people agreed with him. Well, I'm not too worried...in fact, I welcome them, because that way, when they come and see nothing is wrong, the locals will hopefully quit with their comments! Katy is Saluki x Whippet, both naturally very slim breeds, but because they see her next to the greyhounds, who are bigger and heavier than her, they think I'm not feeding her at all. No one thinks to ask how much she eats, far more than the greyhounds do! She's just one of those dogs that doesn't keep weight on, and loves to be out running, and she can't physically eat any more than she already does. The other thing is, compared to the waddling Labradors we see mostly here, she's a scrap! So I say, bring it on

Some people just think they know everything and have a right to make comments without knowing the facts. If you do get contacted by the SSPCA get them to write a letter stating there is nothing wrong with the dog and that her slim form is natural to her breed; and then copy it and hand out the copies to the 'know-it-all' people in the pub.
Katy is gorgeous and I love her new collar.

SarahHound I think to someone that doesn't know what they are talking about and who can't mind their own business she will look thin and unfed. But if like me you know your breeds when it comes to Greyhounds, Whippets, Salukis etc you will know that she is absolutely wonderful, healthy and very beautiful. She is also very much loved and looks VERY happy.

Katy looks in perfect condition to me! The best way to deal with this sort of person is not to react, just blank them and let them carry on showing everyone in ear shot what ignorant stupid fools they are.

I know how you feel. When Finn was a puppy people used to give us looks and talk among themselves if we went into pet shops or whatever, even though a) Setters are extremely slim as puppies anyway and b) he wasn't well. It's not a nice feeling, knowing that people are constantly judging you, even though you know how well you care for your dogs.

Katy looks fine to me. Some people just want to be 'that person' who knows all. They will show themselves up hugely when (and if) the SSPCA investigate further and realise that she is perfectly healthy and happy. She looks very happy on those pictures - not neglected at all. She is skinny, but for her mix of breeds, that is how they should be, and that is how 'it' naturally is. I know why people would say such a thing (because you wouldn't say that to a stocky/overweight breed would you?) but they seem to be doing something that is unnecessary - they shouldn't be doing what they are doing because they have no idea about Katy, her diet, nor her lifestyle! I hope those idiotic people do get humiliated by the SSPCA if they do investigate. They deserve it! And I hope you, SarahHound, feel comfortable and fine if the SSPCA do come to investigate.

I think Katy looks just fine. In my opinion a lot of the issue is that there are so many fat dogs nowadays that people are used to seeing them like that, so they think any dog that isn't pudgy is not fed enough. Katy is lovely

They've shown that about one in three dogs in the UK are overweight. And there are certainly loads of dogs in our area that are fat.

Most of the dogs in my village are Labs, they are EVERYWHERE. And the majority of them are grossly overweight, so that's what people are used to seeing. Thanks guys, I do appreciate your support! It may not come of anything, but I know I have nothing to hide, they are welcome to come and visit if they wish! My vets seen her too, he said she's OK as she is, but he said if I wanted any extra weight on her, then use Hills food, best food out there he says. I declined politely Katy's already eaten 500g of beef mince today, and 100g of Skinners food. That's just her breakfast, there's also been a Bonio and 3 Markies. Impressive for an 18kg doggy! She's going to have her dinner later too!
