On Tuesday, Hoddy woke up and was limping, very slightly. To be honest it wasn't even a limp, she just wasn't walking properly. It was the same foot that she sprained about 2 months ago. We had been to agility the night before but she didn't seem to have any issues then. She had been sleeping on the sofa. After about a minute, she was walking properly again. This morning it happened again. This time, it was barely perceptable, but thre was something slightly different about her gait. It lasted a couple of steps and then she was fine again. On both occasions, it has been after sleeping on the sofa. If shes jumping around or playing, she is fine. Is she sleeps on the floor, she is fine when she wakes up. Any ideas?

our dog used to be like that and sometimes still is, the best thing we found was putting him on a joint supplement and it practically stopped it only appears sometimes now if he has overdone it and is a little sore and stiff but after a few steps the limp wears of.

Does she sleep all curled up or stretched out on the sofa? Maybe the sofa isn't supporting her foot/leg while she's sleeping, although I would have thought it'd be the other way round with the floor being too hard on her leg.

She could have literally pulled it on the last round of agility, right at the end. She could have slept on it funny too. Sometimes aches and pains come back all of a sudden.
I would advise you to rest her for a while and see how she goes. You could ale consider putting her on a joint supplement for a while and see if this helps to improve her.

Could just be a stiff muscle. Have you ever done too much exercise yourself then sat still for too long then got up and forgot and limped? Can't just be me lol
Keep an eye on it, gentle excise just in case it's a tender muscle. It could be coincidence with the sprain or it could be maybe a little bit much exercise?
I wouldn't panic too much or jump into anything too soon, give it a few days at least and take it easy but if it gets worse then maybe a wee trip to the vets in case you need some anti inflamitories. If you think it could be joints then a joint supplement could be the way forward depending on your dogs age

Well 4 days since the last incident and she has been fine. Walks for the past few days and yesterday she went out for a run and all has been fine since. I am getting her some cod liver oil as apparently this is good for the joints? I asked a few dog people for advice and a few came back with the same answer, so its got to be worth a try. Im guessing that she just slept funny, but I'll be keeping an eye on it for the next weeks, just in case.

The only thing to be aware of with CLO is it contains fat soluble vitamins A and D. Being fat soluble they have potential to build up in the system. I have never given these to my dogs. A friend swears by them though. Some people advise fish oil supplement like salmon oil but then you need to consider also possibly giving a vitamin E supplement. I used to give this but currently dont. There are blended fish oil supplements. I have given one of these in the past but have again stopped at present. Other option is the Glucosamine, Chondroitin, MSM tablets. There are some good products out there but need to be aware of quality of contents. One of my dogs is now on some of these for a joint issue. (only reason I have stopped supplements is cos I am moving to raw so keeping things a bit simple at present).

U obviously don't push your of hard enough exercising I don't get this? Generally if you exercise very hard or exercise muscles that are not usually exercised then you know about it the next day (you ache or feel sore). For example going horse riding for five or more hours when you have not been on a horse for 6 months, you generally know the next day!! lol

I've been looking around and it seems that several people agree that whilst Clo is good, salmon oil is apparently better as it is less fatty.
As for vitamin e supplements, I was thinking of boosting her diet with brocilli, which is apparently a good natural source. She gets vegetables in her breakfast anyway, so this shouldnt come as too muh of an upset for her to have brocilli rather than say peas. I would rather use natural products first although it may take a little while to gt the balance right.
