I dislike suncream as a human, I am sure if I even dabbed a spot on Earl he would immediately lick it off...

Yes, but its how long I could distract him FOR, teegiebear. I don't know if he even COULD be distracted in this situation... he's never come across suncream before in his life. But yes, ANYTHING is worth doing to prevent my little boy being in pain.

My dexter likes to lick perfume, I bet he'd do the same with sun cream if it smelt nice lol So for now just hope he's smart enough to lie in the shade sometimes to if its really sunny take him indoors for a wee while

I anybodies dog does get sun burnt then Aleo Vera is great!!!! Cooling, soothing and not toxic.
I keep a bottle in the fridge if Oscar is out all day. And I usually put it on his belly anyway because its only got a tiny covering of fur. It also smells lovely! (its one of the + of getting sun burnt!!!)
I use kids suncream on Oscar if I use any at all. I think its nicer on his skin. He does tend to lick it but I rub it in well and for around 5 or 10 minutes after appliance I play a game or stay out with him so most of it stays on. (he also gets a kong when I leave or some similar toy to distract him further)

Just wondering if it is ok to apply human suncream especially if they try to lick it off. Only i think Riley has scratched some of the skin off his nose i think he did it when he was chewing the skirting board in the kitchen although he has stopped doing it now. But i was thinking of applying some suncream to his nose when it is quite warm.

chantel; I don't really know the answer to your human suncream question, however, as there are special DOG MADE formulas out there, then I would go with them and keep human suncream to yourself...

I was told childrens sun screen was ok for dogs. A friend uses it on her horse?!? I used some children's sun screen on 3 ponies yesterday and they are all still here and alive today. Oscar has licked human sun screen of me before too (he even got the lid of the bottle on the beach before...) and he is still here too. They make everything for dogs these days don't they!

The only sun screen for dogs I've seen was on Amazone I think and it was VERY expensive?!? Ah, Yes! But almost everything that is designed for dogs is horribly expensive! It's a rip-off in my view. There are many food/dietary supplements for dogs that are FAR more expensive than those SAME products for humans. Healthspan have many products designed for humans (and that means QUALITY) that are a fraction of the price of similar pet products - one example comes immediately to mind, garlic tablets/capsules. Dorwest (admittedly a good outfit, but expensive) garlic tablets are VASTLY more expensive than the Healthspan ones designed for humans - BUT can be given to dogs with NO problems. And garlic is just one example; there are many others.
