It's took some time but we've got there we have adopted Leo from Malaga.
He is very underweight but a happy boy, he was dropped off last night,we've had him weighed at the vets this morning and there is a long road to go to put all the weight back on, he is great with kids and people but not so great with my cats but we will get there slowly.

So pleased for you scruffsmaz. Aptly named Leo as we are in August. Is he the German Shepherd you mentioned before? Tell us all about him. Would love to see a pic. I hope he gets used to the cats soon.

Yeah it is, nobody is sure how old he, we got told he was 2 then his paperwork says he's 3 so in a couple of weeks he is going in the vets for an mot, I can't do it sooner because of his insurance so I'll ask my vets how old she thinks he is. In his face he looks so much like Alfie and its creepy. We've chose to keep his name because he's in a new home and a new country so we wanted to keep something that he knows. He only weighs 29.2kg and he is all skin and bone so he's on 3 small meals a day until further notice, he is a lovely boy but geeze he's wild when it comes to the cats and they've gone into hiding since they had a run in with him on the first night.

Yes, as scallywag (nice to see you back) said, he is one lucky boy. You are going to be so good for each other. Touching that he reminds you of Alfie.

It's been hard the last few months with losing Alfie as my daughter said she lost a big part of me when I lost him but she has seen some of the old me back but I still think my heart will be with Alfie but we chose to adopt Leo to help me, we also found out that dogs that don't find a home they get destroyed which isn't fair on any of them. Leo is a lovely dog apart from the cats issue, we think he has had a home at some point because the way he is with other dogs and kids hopefully Leo and my 2 cats will sort their issues out real soon, as u can imagine every day is so stressful till bedtime as Leo isn't allowed in the frontroom during the night so the cats can eat, drink and go to the loo.

Leo is settling in well, he still hasn't sorted is cat issue out yet, he really won't back off with them, now I have 2 scared cats and 1 of them won't come in, I have to try and get him every morning by getting him in. I got him Weighed on the 9th and he was 32.5kg so I have cut his meals down to twice a day as I don't want him to put too much on him too quickly, I've seen a couple of incidents when it comes to men and walking sticks,he is so scared of them, so the other half has to be careful around Leo. Leo is scared of pretty much of everything, when we take him for a walk where it's quiet which he seems happy with, and if I go out he's out with me as we don't think he's ready yet to be left alone yet. He has made us laugh a few times. He's fell off our bed a few times and looked as if to say what happened there, he also digs his treats in the garden and keeps checking on it to make sure it's still there. There is alot of hard work to do with him, with his weight, the cats and confidence.

I had to laugh at the bed issue , and I felt you laughed too x it will be hard going , a lot of patience from you , your cats and Leo BUT I am sure given time you sound like the sort if family that will persevere and get there in the end. Poor Leo , what sort of life must he have had if he has to keep checking his prized treat has not been stolen ?
Your cat that has not settled , talking out my bum now as not a cat person , but reading posts here over past 7 years .. can you not put dogs scented blanket in the cats bed .

For what I have been told Leo was found on the streets in march and then in private kennels, Leo is very thin he has managed to put some weight on the 5 weeks that we've had him, he arrived to us at 29.2kg, last month he was 32.5kg I'm gonna get him weighed next week, we've decided to get him weighed once a month until we're happy with his weight. I do have a lot of patience to animals and kids but when it comes down to the other half I don't 😂 Leo has started to come of of his shell a little bit more in the last couple of days, we took him to pets at home today and chose his own toy and walked around the shop to pay for it, I've never had to pay £6 for a squeaky Teddy before but it was worth it with seeing Leo playing with it and seeing how happy he was, We have seen how scared he is with men and sticks and other dogs but you can tell he loves kids, he's starting to be a mummy's boy, he loves going out in the car and he also likes his walks but only in quiet places, the other half takes him for a long walk in the early hours so there's not many people around. I really don't know how I'm going to get Leo and the cats to get on with each other as Leo is very headstrong and hyper when it comes to them.

It's good that Leo is coming out of his shell a bit. I don't know what to suggest with the cats, it's going to be a long struggle to get Leo used to them, I think. You might find some tips online regarding rescue dogs.

We had Leo weighed on Friday and still hasn't put anymore weight on so he's still 32.5kg. So I've upped his food and will be taken back in in 2 weeks.
We took him for a long walk yesterday somewhere that was quiet, he was off his lead for the first time and it was great he stopped and came back on command it was so nice to see, he was really tired by the time we finished and he them played ball in our garden for the first time too.
He really likes his "pig" that we bought him from pets at home ( Leo chose it him self) we've ended up getting him another one, he even showing that he's happy by wagging is tail more, which is great to see. He uses me as security when he gets scared. He still nibbles when he plays so we use his Teddy as a distraction to stop him.
Life with Leo has Brought our house alive again and it's great

That's great news scruffsmaz. Leo is improving slowly but surely. Great that you felt confident enough to let Leo off his lead. I'm glad that you feel that your house is alive again - Leo has brought love with him for you all. No mention of the cats? I take it Leo still doesn't like them.
