Are in decline everywhere the zoology dep of Galway university are doing a count to see how many in Ireland so as I'm not flat out working I had time to help out at the back of ours is huge fields and I got permission to set out 10 tunnels these had a removable bottom section and I was to fit a white sheet of A4 paper some ink and food and same on the way out of the tunnel the idea being walk up the first sheet through the ink and leave inky prints on the way out this was done for 5 days these were refilled with food and papers picked up in the morning first night out of ten I had one cat and one hog the last night I had what looked like 3 mice two big hedgehogs and in one spot I had a small hog no adult with him so now that I know they out there and where they are I have to fatten up the little one and keep the others as good as they are it's not on me to leave them to there own devices or should I step back and not interfere but the little one has 12 weeks to beef up or he won't survive hibernation but in such a huge space 3 seems to be a reason to help be it a handful of dry cat food I expected a lot more

Great that they are trying to find out how many hedgehogs are in the area. Sadly, I keep seeing squashed ones on the road. Although. I've had a youngish one in my garden over the last few days.

We have a very nosey hog that comes in our garden most nights.
The other night I was in the kitchen making my sandwiches for work the following day and I had the back door open, Jasper was led in the doorway to the hall on the other side of the kitchen when suddenly he shot passed me outside. When I looked to see what had caught his attention (thinking it was a cat) it turned out to be a hog looking in.
