Hadn't realised that I hadn't posted the following about Osiris.
He went off his food so vet visit 8/4/21 - inflamed back teeth/gums. So antibiotic for a week & a dental booked for 14/4/21 when he had bloods tested at same time - OK. There were no extractions just a deep teeth clean workout for the vet!
His eating improved then stopped again he'd lost weight to 4.55Kg (was 5.6 historically & loss was gradual) so back to vets 11/5/21 - result booked for blood test again as the previous ones may have been influenced by IV fluids given pre dental op. Also stop Metacam, wait a week to get it out of his system & change to a steroid instead.
12/5/21 bloods - vet student did a clean shave without sedation & got the limited blood OK - everyone very surprised that Osiris wasn't a wild cat!!! results classified him as pre-renal disease. He was given a diazepam injection as an appetite stimulant - it certainly worked as he ate 2 pouches straight off when came home! However very wobbly on legs, jumping up & balance. Kept him in until stable (8pm)
Sound on for the 1st one
Medrone (steroid) to be started in a week (once Metacam cleared from his system & the vet will see him again in 2 weeks (1 week after starting the medrone).
25/5/21 Back at vets - difficult to give Medrone tablets as finds it food (manged 5/6 of the 7 days but nothing will conceal it now & can't pill him) Had bloods again. Vet wanted head vet to review Osiris's bloods but he was not in until 28th)
28/5/21 Roman was a Ormskirk for his T4 (thyroid) test so spoke to head vet about Osiris's results. - not too bad, possibly try renal food - which we'd done in the past (several years ago) with not much success. The other vet had thought about Gabapentin instead of Medrone but head vet didn't recommend it ( he'd had not tried with cats but not had good results with dogs). There's a new product called Nutraren (some company as their Nutraquin/Nutramed) but suggested Mirtazapine 1/4 tablet once a day.
Gave Osiris the Mirtazapine once but he didn't do well - seemed worried not himself wanting reassurance & slightly uncoordinated. I was concerned that he would scratch my face as he pawed for reassurance - not normal. Gave it time to wear off but in the end called the vets who advised to stop it. Ajax told me that her Leroy had it once & was hallucinating!
So Osiris is not on any arthritis meds other than the Nutraquin powder, has had some stiffness signs - which have eased a bit but will need to see where we go when it gets colder/damper.
His eating is variable - just needs the right food - in his view that's chicken/ham etc.!
