...FLEAS
Wondering if anyone can advise me on how to deal with them, or just give me some reassurance that I'm dealing with them in the best way
As I mentioned in the chitchat thread, the other week, Ziggy has fleas. I've only actually seen about 3 fleas on her in about 3 weeks(when I first noticed her scratching). She's licking and scratching a lot, and the patch of fur at the base of her tail is looking very thin and I can see some little scabs there so after some research it seems like she's having a mild allergic reaction. She's fine in herself, so I really don't want to have to take her to the vet as I payed that enormous £530 vet bill last week(of course if she needs it I will take her, but I don't want to take her just to be told that the cure is to get rid of the fleas when I am working my hardest on that already!)
What I've already done/am doing to get rid of the fleas:
- I Frontline'd her two weeks ago(on the 24th) so I can't do that again for another month. Annoyingly after treating her I realised I used regular Frontline instead of Frontline plus, so that'll only kill adult fleas
- I've put all of my sheets in a wash at 60 degrees to kill any fleas, larvae and eggs in there, and am working on doing all our laundry at 60 just to be safe . I'm not sure what to do with other blankets on my bed as they can only be washed at 30 but the frontline home spray says not to use on human bedding.
- I've sprayed the spots she sits on the bedroom carpet with Frontline Homegard(I did as much of the carpet as I could but the windows in my bedroom don't open so I'm worried about ventilation, I may do the rest more tomorrow though) and then hoovered. I'm going to hoover every day or two for a little while from now on. I've also washed and sprayed all Ziggy's blankets which are currently airing outside(I'm a bit nervous about letting her lie on them but the can does say for pet bedding on the spray can)
My housemate is away until Saturday so I'm going to ask if I can spray her room and if she can wash her bedding at 60 when she gets back, and I'm going to spray the living room and hall carpets tomorrow too.
Does it sound like I'm doing everything right or am I missing a vital step??
Sorry for the long post! My boyfriend thinks I'm overreacting and it's not really an infestation like I'm worried it is seeing as we've only found 3 fleas and us humans aren't getting bitten. I do tend to overthink and worry about things, so some reassurance from other pet parents would be much appreciated
