Update 1
22nd June needed a written 6 month repeat prescription for Roman’s Metacam so contacted the vet & found that they were now doing annual vaccinations & check-ups so booked both Roman & Lexie in for 24th morning. That night all the cats were now in when I realised there was blood (not a large amount – just small patches) on the kitchen floor & traced it to Osiris left hind paw. He wouldn’t let me look at it so decided to see how it was in the morning.
There were blood stains on the bedding in the morning where Osiris had slept but again just small marks. However I contacted the vets as I didn’t know if there was anything in the wound (at various times I've seen broken glass on some of his routes). I got an appointment that morning.
I wasn’t allowed in the vets but the vet came out into the car park to hear all about the problem & then took Osiris in. He came back to say it wasn’t bad & nothing in it, even took a photo on his phone to show me. However he prescribed antibiotics as Osiris does go out & about, initially was going to give me a liquid to put in food but Osiris can be picky I asked for tablets which I reckoned I could hide in chicken. Also Osris is to be kept in for 7-10 days, when I commented on Osiris’s toileting habit of using the litter mat rather than the tray he brought it down to 5 days.
I definitely found out which litter mats weren’t waterproof during those 5 days. I found a use for the plastic hall runner I bought but never used – it definitely didn’t leak. It was Ok to start but that week it started getting hot again so I had to move him (& litters) from front to back of the house (or vice versa) depending on where the sun was to make sure he wasn’t in a room that was too hot.
The chicken worked for a while but he started rejecting the bits with the pill in. So I tried ham, again ok but then found the tablets. The last day pastrami was the trick. Was I glad when he could go out again Sunday 28th. He’d not had more bleeding but of course a day later it did bleed again but again not much so I suspect he’d knocked a scab off, there was one more occasion & nothing since so seems OK.
