Hi,
I've noticed that Ruppee the semi long haired cat seems to be getting prone to tats. The problem is that he is getting tats on his hind legs close to his boy bit. How do I keep this area brushed without upsetting him by accidentally getting his boy bit with the steel brush?
Thanks
Rachel

I don't think that's an issue really, I've got a semi-long hair and I just brush her anyway, I've done it every day and never caught anything. Boys willies aren't 'out' that often anyway, so I doubt you'd catch it. In the 9 years I've had my boy cat I've seen 'it' once!

Hi, Personally I wouldn't use a steel brush on my longhaired cat. I use a Zoom Groom, which has rubbery bristles, and massages the skin as well as removing lots of loose fur. Most cats are a bit sensitive in the area around their private bits, but the Zoom Groom is too soft to hurt them.

Thanks Celeste. I've seen those sorts of brushes so I may try one now you've recommended it.

I have exactly the same problem! Or rather, Bumble does (the black semi-longhaired in the photo with me).
Bumble is a girl, though behaves like a boy! So much that we call her 'he', also partly to differentiate her from her sister Honey- she is VERY fierce and hissy, and will scram and bite (though only at 'warning' level). Her underside and sensitive areas are also rather scruffy with the long fur, some of which seems bleached.
I occasionally brush Bumble and now and then put some Katalax on her paw (the only way to get her to take it!).
But really, I would like to try and get rid of the older scruffier fur on Bumble's underside - but she most certainly does not like being interfered with 'down below'! So it's not just boy cats!
Any advice, anyone? Probably I should brush her more - but how often? And how on earth could I brush her underside anyway?

My 6m old kitties don't mind being brushed at all I use the zoom groom too. However, the older boy doesn't like it at all. I do manage to brush in underneath if I am very quick. All my cats are medium long haired being ragdolls and ragdoll x maine coon. I normally feed them a treat afterwards which does seem to make it more bearable for them. They get groomed 2-3 times a week.
