After everything my poor lad has had to deal with in the last 4 years with cancer 3 times and radiotherapy after his last operation and hips problem ( which he's having tramadol for) he's now got to have another scan. My vets have been doing alot of blood tests for Cushing's disease. He has a tumour on his left kidney and we need to see if he can have it removed, if he can't have it removed he will end up on medication for the rest of his life. My boy is 8 1/2 and I can't believe how much he has gone through but he has pulled through everytime.

So sorry to read this , wishing your Alfie well what ever happens , theres no right or wrong , an op is invasive , or meds for rest of life easier but its quality of life at the end of the day. Hard to express what im trying to say , but having been there with my previous boy , who started his health issues ( one after the other ) at age 5, and went on till age 10, stay positive Your boy knows how much you love him. HUGS XX

Sending good wishes to you and Alfie scruffsmaz. Alfie has been through so much. Like scallywag says, it's quality of life that is important for our pets. I hope that whichever route you go down with Alfie will be successful. Let us now how he gets on.

Alfie sounds like a real fighter against illness scruffsmaz. Fingers crossed for an outcome of the tests that'll give him the best quality of life with the least amount of stress for him & you.

If the scan comes out ok he will have a better chance in life with having the op because it'll be a cure and the Cushings will go and he'll have a better quality of life but if the scan shows he cant have the op the only option is meds which will be for the rest of his life and won't be a cure. With Alfie going through this has made me realise I don't know how much longer I will my boy.

I wondered if that was where you'd be going scruffsmaz. It might be a rather overpowering for Alfie but as you say you have no choice & they are very good from what I've heard. Hope all goes well. I don't know of many places who have those sort of facilities, although oddly, only a couple of weeks ago whilst looking up the details of a vet who was (& I believe still locums) at my vets practice, I found he was at a Wigan vets (about 5 miles from me) which has both MRI & CT scanners & a referral practice. No idea what they're like, I only know the vet (Polish) is good (both as a surgical vet & with his clarity of practical advice & patience), he did our Roman's (cat) cruciate ligament diagnose & op. & even once was brave enough to try (with another vet) to pill our Penny - & agreed she was a nightmare!!!!

I've been told there are very few place. I was told the place e we're going is the best. If he can have the op I've asked my vet to do it as she has got every bit of cancer from him plus alfie trusts her and the staff. I only want the best for him plus we wont have travel once he's had it done
