Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with pumpkin paste. I have heard that pumpkin is good for sensitive tummies. I was thinking of giving it a go with Riley has he has a real sensitive tummy especially when he is anxious 😟
I have taken him off wet food and switched him to jameswellbeloved dry and boiled chicken and he has been so much better, but I was thinking of adding a teaspoon of pumpkin paste to his main meal .
Also I was wondering if it could be frozen?

I don't use it myself but I do know a few people who use it for their own dogs and seem to like it. However, I can recommend slippery elm powder. It coats and soothes the stomach lining so is very good for sensitive stomachs. I've been using it with Oscar for quite some time now. I don't use it every day, only a couple times a week, but it can be used indefinitely with most dogs. This is the one that I use but you might be able to find it in health stores, www.dorwest.com/product/tree-barks-powder-for-dogs-and-cats/Ginger and peppermint can also be quite good for settling sensitive tummies too.

I can't help with the pumpkin paste chantel but the slippery elm powder is used by my friend for her cats & also on the cat kidney disease forum, I'm a member of, it is always recommended for cats who are having the standard issues (for kidney disease) of diarrhoea or vomiting so see no reason why it shouldn't be a good idea for Riley. That forum also says that:-But that is pumpkin itself not paste. I suppose the major difference is paste versus powder. If you can sprinkle the powder on Riley's food then that solves the freezing problem but I note your post states he no longer has wet food so not sure if it is easy to give directly or on the boiled chicken or if it can be made into a paste perhaps bextull can clarify that.

I buy Kiba-Khan the Applaws chicken cat food with pumpkin as it is good for preventing constipation.

Another vote for slippery elm! We have the Dorwest product too. I keep it in the cupboard and only bring it out when Alfie has a bit of a dodgy tum and it never fails to fix the problem

I also reach for dorwest tree bark powder when mine are not right at the loo. Also use if Gypsys tummy starts to get noisy (which I believe is linked to her pancreatic issue).
I do buy a pumpkin at halloween and blitz up and freeze but tend to use up within a few months. My two love it and I do think it helps with poo consistency. Have never used paste though so unable to advise.

Slippery elm powder can be made into a paste. It absorbs liquid very easilly (perhaps too easily as it almost forms a cement like consistency if you leave it too long!). If you sprinkled it on dry food and then added a small bit of water, it'd stick to kibble no problem. Or can be added dry but I don't think that's as enjoyable for the dog .

Thank you guys the Slippery elm may well be worth a go . Touch wood both tummies are back to normal at the moment 😊 R/C are prone to sensitive tummies but Elsa’s tummy is not quite as bad as Riley’s. Although he is a very fussy eater so whether he would eat his food if he could taste the powder but definitely worth a try 😊
I think Riley’s tummy issues sometimes flare up when his anxiety issues are bad bless him (due to noise)
I bought some denta bites the other day and they have peppermint in and to my surprise he does actually like them 😊
Elsa eats absolutely anything she is a real food monster 😂

Riley’s slippery elm bark arrived yesterday just in time has he has a funny tummy once again after hearing the next door neighbours kids popping balloons all afternoon ☹️ I made some up late last night to add to his main meal tonight . I made it up to the instructions but is it correct that it should go like a gravy texture ? I was expecting it to be more like a thick paste . plus it made quite a lot. The instructions state 10ml twice a day for Riley’s weight .
I poured the remaining into a flask but i’m wondering how long I can keep it like that ? and if I could freeze some .
Any advice would be very much appreciated 😊

I believe you can buy pumpkin puree in tins. Just make sure it is pure pumpkin though, not pie filling containing sugar. I am looking for it for my new pup, haven't found it in shops yet, but it seems to be available online.

You haven't missed anything. But now you know. I've had several deaths in the last 18 months (human and canine). Lost my last 2 dogs. And now I have a new pup.
