Our lovely April Fool, Osiris, is 13 today although watching some of his crazy antics it's hard to believe He will get some delayed presents:- claws clipped at the vets tomorrow morning ready for his holiday which starts next Saturday - not sure he'll call that a present & some new toys for his holiday accommodation But tonight he'll get some extra nice dinner treat, not sure yet whether it will be fish (will need to go to the chippie) or some ham. I tried all 3 with some Fish4Cats Tuna with Anchovy last night (he's been getting picky with his food) & he asked for (or should that be demanded!) more, which he & Lexie got (Roman ate the test but didn't want more), so I might try another of the flavours that I bought at last weekend's show.

Happy 13th Birthday to the gorgeous Osiris - glad he liked his new food. How much do your vets charge for the claw clipping?

As I just found out £16.50 Its absolutely amazing the change in Osiris on the vets table, no trouble at all its the same on normal consults (including temp taking!), but apparently he turns into a wild cat when taken into the hospital part for blood tests or dentals etc. as he can do if I try to make him do something he doesn't want to do.

Osiris seems to know what he's going to the vet for. Our vet charges £10 for the claw clipping - the nurse does it not the vet.

This was one of the vets doing it.
Can't remember what the nurses charged when they did Penny's who could be a nightmare on the vets table & usually did better taken away by the nurses, except for the one time she scared everyone by stopping breathing, can't remember if it was after 1 claw or 1 paw. Apparently as soon as the nurse put her back in her carrier she was fine. they kept her until lunchtime & were going to try again & they did her claws.
The nurse was supposed to be showing me how to tablet her once they 'd done her claws but they decided to try her a lunchtime & apparently they succeeded but it took 2 vets to do so. They definitely agreed she was very, very difficult to give oral meds to so this influenced her medication choices & also acceptance of quality over quantity of life.
Oddly Penny & Osiris came from the same home to the rescue although there was 7 years difference between them. It seems they both have the wild cat behaviour gene!

Do you have to have all of the cats' claws clipped when they go to the cattery?

Not normally as they usually wear them down naturally but Roman & Osiris are getting a little less active, in fact Ajax found one of Roman's claws beginning to turn into the pad, luckily found in time! Lexie's are clipped by either myself or Ajax (she does it more efficiently ) as her's are needle sharp. Also this is the first time they've been to this cattery & I don't want to risk the owners being scratched even by accident. They've been going to the other cattery for years so know the owners, but this time they weren't open (holidays) when I initially booked them, as you know that date has changed twice now so still continuing with the new (to me) cattery, as they haven't charged any cancellation fees (yet)! Our normal one probably would as it was short notice!!!
