My little Freddy has got sun stroke he was really struggling with the heat on Friday - he was just slumping about inside - when I got up yesterday morning with him he normally come and sits in the chair with me for snuggles but he had a bit of wet food and just was lying on the floor bless him - he was then sick and did a poop 💩 at the top of the stairs 😾he never has an accident so i knew he wasn’t right and his pads on his paws were very red . I popped a wet towel on him which he wasn’t keen on and popped Riley and Elsa’s cooling cushion in his room and by surprise he did lye on it .
There is plenty of water 💦 I have got 2 cooling dishes 1 upstairs and 1 downstairs but he seems to drink more in an evening.
I was at work Friday afternoon it was so warm and hubby kept changing the water and it was lovely and cool in the living room but I think he was try to keep the dogs cool he never thought about Freddy .
He seems fine now he’s had his breakfast this morning and had a good drink of water. The dogs are still exhausted from the heat but when I woke this morning Riley was actually lying on the cooling mat 😀

Aww Freddy, too much sunbathing! Cats like the warmth but normally do find shade if they're really hot. Hope he's OK. I presume his pads were just redder than normal & not burnt from a hot surface (e.g. flagstones). chantel, Is it worth keeping curtains closed in his room when the sun is hot & shining in?

He’s absolutely fine this morning scallywag I have pulled down the blinds in his room to keep it cool for him . tonib his pads were just red because he was warm 🥵he’s a house cat so no worries about his pads being burnt from a hot surface. I don’t normally have to worry about the heat with him being inside but it was so warm on Friday I think he may have got dehydrated he doesn’t drink a lot really normally after his meals. I have been giving him more wet food than dry at the moment.

Hi Guys I was just wondering if any of your fur babies have strange litter box antics. Freddy has always had a hooded litter box from being 8 weeks old and all of a sudden he has decided to poop outside the entrance of his litter box which is quite frustrating even though he wees inside the box.
Nothing is any different i use same litter always take dirty litter out each day. This as been going on now for a good few months .
Hubby decided to take off the litter box lid to see if it made a difference - he now poops in the box , so i decided to put the lid back on and yes once again he pooped on the floor. The litter box is big enough for him to turn around in it’s the same size as he has always had.
I’m just wondering if anyone else has come up against this it’s quite frustrating ): at times especially with the odour.

chantel, could it be the posture he uses is different for pee & poop. If Freddy is starting arthritis then with the lid on it could be more awkward/painful.

I would leave the lid off. If you are worried about odour, switch to silica cat litter as it definitely hides any odours. Kai Ruki sometimes misses the litter tray when he poops and he's recently been diagnosed with arthritis, so perhaps tonib is right in her assumption that Freddy may be developing arthritis.

We are leaving the lid off now to make life easier for all. Maybe 🤔 it could be arthritis but he has not shown any signs.

I hope that the lid removal is the answer.

Freddy went for his 6 month health check today 😾he was fine other than his gums 😾they look very sore on his left side at the back - gingivitis)the nurse 👩⚕️ said he didn’t need a dental right now but to keep an eye on it because she thought it might start to become painful 😣 but doesn’t need to be done right now but probably in 6 months time .🙈this will be the 3rd dental he has had 🙈she said his teeth in general were fine it was mainly his gum so maybe the plaque off as helped 😻

Aww poor Freddy but glad the rest of the health check was OK. I presume he's eating OK despite the sore looking gums
