I hope they do find the cause of this disease, it’s so scary.

This has been posted on facebook today on a group I am part of. I am gutted as the person who posted it I call a friend There has also been a post about a possible unconfirmed case in region of Brecon / Merthyr, but not heard anymore about this one. What I am trying to say is please keep alert to anything that might be occurring locally to where you live as at the moment there seems to be a number of unconfirmed cases (I guess many will become confirmed).

This seriously freaks me out ☹️So sad ☹️ Freaks me out too. caz2golden not sure if we will be going away this year ☹️ We normally go to the coast (Filey/flamborough) with Riley and stay in a bungalow but I feel quite anxious and feel I don’t want to risk things ☹️Also puppy will only be around 9 months 😊hubby was thinking she would be too young to take away but I think she would be fine 😊we never roam too far it’s just a lovely place to go and chill out 😊 Although depends what she is like in the car , Riley had really bad anxiety and car sickness ☹️ We will just have to wait and see . I suppose I could get him some boots 😀lol

From what I can gather the latest advice is wash dogs down with cold water. There is a thought process that cold water has higher chlorine content and that whatever is causing Alabama rot 'maybe' discouraged by the Chlorine! I think this is still just a stab in the dark!
TBH so cold at the moment my dogs are being washed down with warm water, might have to rethink that! I have not been using any shampoo or similar.
What do other people do?

I normally use muddy paw wipes 😊and I know hubby thinks i’m over reacting a little but I have been inspecting Riley’s paws after every walk 😊

I"ve been hosing my lot down, with cold water, but no shampoo. The advice I've seen says cold water and shampoo, but no hibiscrub or the like. I don't know whether shampoo is definitely necessary I've seen this shared on facebook regarding our area: That was written by a dog walker in Washington, Tyne & Wear and it does make some good points. It's unnecessary to stop walking in places that you normally go if there's been no cases or even suspected cases in that area. Maybe, if you know there's been a confirmed case then stay away, but don't deny your dogs their normal walks. I wash our 3's legs and bellies after every walk I take them on, but no-one else in the house does despite me sharing posts on facebook where they can see. I don't know whether we're even at risk as we don't walk in woodland, but we do have the burn and there are trees. So I feel it's better to be safe than sorry by washing them down, but I'm not going to stop walking our normal route.
