Some of you may remember the problem we had with Lexie in early November yourpetforums.co.uk/post/138335/thread
She was being sick & a blood test found out of kilter liver enzymes but medcines cured it (antibiotics & prednisolone) in a couple of weeks.
However in Jamuary she started being occasionally sick again, either overnight or after her breakfast but not after her tea even though it was exactly the same as her breakfast or completely off her food! But then around the 20/1/17 the vomiting became a bit more frequent although still only in the morning, so 24/1/17 she saw the vet who thought her liver might be a bit inflammed again & also a lymph node, additionally her bowel felt thickened, so she was given a long lasting antibiotic injection (Convenia) and prednisolone tablets again (1/2 a day). The vet didn't know what was going on but one option was feline triaditis - liver inflammation, feline pancreatitis & IBD!!! We were advised to take the Royal Canin kibble out of her diet (keeping just to JWB) & also the Felix moist!
She was booked in the next day (25/1/17) for an ultrasound & bloods taken to send off for test for Pancreatic lipases. The ultrasound didn't show anything untoward although they couldn't see her pancreas.
Last Thursday (2/2/17) we had the results of the blood test which was negative - good news - & her bowel was slightly less thickened. The vet was planning to put her on the Hills Z/D but as she's been OK on just JWB (kibble & moist) we agreed to leave her on that, especially after she reviewed the old vet paper notes I brought with me.
She has a history of stomach upsets normally including diarrhoea, usually related to stress although she couldn't eat pure RC kibble. We have her vet notes from a kitten (although we only got her in 2012 around 2.5 years old) when she was found to have giardia & potentially a food intolerance for which she was put on Z/D & once settled changed to JWB. When she developed stress related stomach issue not long after she came to us, Z/D was again the solution & then back to JWB. Eventually we kept her on JWB kibble but with RC mixed in as it was Roman's favourite & we could feed them both the same. However over 2 years ago she stopped eating the JWB moist & so we tried her on Felix & she thrived on that (sauce sensations).
We had a good consultation with the vet discussing results, her history & food options. We've got to keep her fat intake low so no more normal cat treats & in particular she's can't have her bedtime treat of a Felix Twist (she loved them)! We now give her a very little grilled chicken or the like as a treat to go with her small overnight kibble. She can also have the Applaws small tins so although not a complete food its a good alternative to JWB occasionally.
She's now on prednisolone 1/4 tablet a day (or 1/2 every other day) & the vet has added Nutramed capsules - luckily she's allowed the Hill's Metabolic treats as they are low fat (checked with the vet) so she gets 2 in the morning after her tablet & 3 in the evening with the capsule, she's so intersted in getting the treats she takes the medcines very well, she's so interest. We did try sprinkling the capsule in her teatime moist but she wouldn't touch it!!!! For her to go hungry rather than eat something mans she really doesn't like it. It'll be intersting when the dose changes to 1/2 a capsule a day - unlike the Nutraquin (which Roman is on) it doesn't say that it can 1 very other day instead - I've got to contact the company/vet to find out. For info the capsules are smaller than the Nutraquin!!!
We've got to continue the medicines for 3 weeks & then go back to the vets to review progress.
