So pleased that you are picking Ringo up tonight and that something has been sorted with the finance. What a worry for you on top of the worry of Ringo's operation.

Oh it's so nice to have Ringo home. It was horrible this morning coming downstairs & him not being around. When the nurse finally brought him out & he saw us, he put his head against the bars on his carrier door so we could stroke & scratch the top of his head, he loves that. He was as happy to see us as we were him. The nurse gave us a little carrier bag of bits & explained how & when to give him his drugs. We've made an appointment for Saturday as he needs a post op check, & then another a week to ten days after that. We now know he is definitely going to be ok, because the first thing he did when we got home & opened his carrier door, was go straight to the kitchen for a drink & something to eat. That is a good sign. We even mixed some Dreamies in with his biscuits. One smell of the treats & he ignored his Whiskers. "> When Ringo had a belly full, he went in the living room & we managed to persuade him to lay down on the floor. We've been told he's not to climb or jump, Ringo? easier said than done. As soon as we looked away he got up & jumped on the sofa & laid down, had a wash & went to sleep. He's been there since. We've got Metacam & Trazodone Hydrochloride Oral Solution to give him once daily with food & they've given us something called Hibertane to dilute with water & clean around his pins. Our only problem is not having a room where he can't jump up on anything now. The thing on his leg with the blue cover on it is the pin locking mechanism that keeps the bones from twisting at the break on the main long leg rod.

cheryl & J1M glad to hear & see ringo is home. However you really do need to make sure he's not jumping around on that leg. do you know any one who has a dog/cat crate they could lend you? I got one for our Roman, when he had a leg injury & operation, from Pets at Home with room for a litter tray, cat bed & food & water bowls. you may need plenty of newspaper to line the tray as a water (of all varieties) absorber. sounds cruel but they do adapt. I say lend as you've had a mass of bills. Has the vets said how much exercise Ringo can have (or even must have) other than jumping around? A harness & lead (if he will tolerate it) might help let him have controlled exercise. A member of the forum had her cat Alfie at Fitzpatrick's (Supervet) & when he came home he was on cage rest for 23 hours a day for some time & then had gradual exercise.

Awww bless him. So pleased he is home BUT..... I ditto tonib having not long been thru having a Springer with a cruciate operation, no exercise, no jumping up on couches etc, for 4 months, it was hard. As was explained to me by my vet, it is the internal tissue , ligaments etc that needed to heal and graft on, what looks ok from the outside is an entirely different matter to the inside, and I know I have waffled on here, maybe not made sense, maybe gypsy can explain better ? Anyways wish you well keeping him down, maybe crate him as mch as you can , atleast for the time being ? X

Ooooh poor baby (((GENTLE HUGS))) I once had a foster cat in 2011/12 called Lily and she came to us after being hit by a car. Her front leg was broken and she too needed a big op with all the metal work sticking out We had her in a 4ft dog crate (she was a BIG cat!!!) in the corner of our living room for around 3 - 4 months until her bones healed and she took to confinement surprisingly well - it helps that cats sleep a lot!!! We were allowed to bring her out for an hour or so in the evening and she would snuggle up on the sofa next to us. She did make a full recovery though and I'm sure Ringo will have no problems either Echo the others though.....PLEASE beg, borrow or steal a dog crate from somewhere - it's vitally important Ringo does NOT get even a single chance to jump or otherwise damage that leg (((HUGS))) Perhaps look on Amazon as they do 4ft crates for around ยฃ40 with next day delivery or try Gumtree or Preloved in your area and see if anyone has a suitable crate which you can go and pick up I know it may seem 'cruel' to keep your gorgeous wee man 'locked up' in a crate for months but it's the only way to make sure his leg heals ok and in the grand scheme of things it's just a TINY portion of the 15+ years he's going to be a member of your family Keep us updated on Ringo's progress (((HUGS))) I've chucked in a few pennies to help - know what a nightmare it can be to find cash in an emergency It's usually cars conking out with us!!!

Glad to hear Ringo is home and well, but I agree with everyone else about getting a dog crate to stop him jumping onto things. It would be a shame after all the trouble and expense etc and him finally getting the operation, if he was to end up causing himself more pain and suffering and needing more vet treatment, or if the injury didn't heal correctly because he was jumping up on things. I also agree that exercising him on a lead to begin with would be much better than letting him loose. I know it seems unfair as he is a kitten, but he will be a three legged kitten or as good as if he damaged his leg further and that would be much worse than having a few weeks crate rest.

Pets I own: Have always had cats as far as I can remember. Currently the owners of a Tabby kitten called "Ringo". He was born Weds 29/04/2015 & we got him Thursday 18/06/2015. He's just over 3 months old at time of writing. He is light grey with black Tiger stripes & he has black rings around his tail & back legs, hence the name "Ringo". Nothing to do at all about The Beatles. Now he has started to develop a beigey colour in his coat, & in some photos & different light, for some reason seems to have a slight orangey/ginger colour.
He's a right character, always friendly & loving & happy to see us, always following us around the house, always charging around & playing with his toys & stalking anything that moves, & then when he gets tired, jumps up for a fuss. Couldn't ask for a better cat. He's perrrfect.

Thank you all for that valuable advice. When we picked Ringo up we were just told to confine him to one room & don't let him climb or jump. But putting him on cage rest sounds good. Like I've mentioned in previous posts, we've never been in this situation before with a serious injury so please keep the advice coming. No one knows better than pet owners or friends of owners who have already been through a similar or same experience. We've been lucky with our past cats. We dismantled his 6ft cat tree last night when we got him home & will put it back up when advised by the vet. His cat tree is why we said its easier said than done to stop Ringo climbing. It's made him an expert. We have Pets At Home in Sittingbourne so as I'm at work today, Cheryl has ordered & paid ยฃ34 for a dog crate measuring 61.5 x 57.5 x 91.5 cm. www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/black-epoxy-coated-dog-crate That should be plenty of room for his litter tray, food bowl & water fountain & bed, but should be small enough to discourage him from moving around too much. The only thing is, Cheryl said they haven't got it in stock. They said they will email when it's in either late this morning or this afternoon.

As Ringo's still a small cat/kitten that should be fine. If it isn't big enough then PAH are good about changing them or at least ours were. Although I might think twice about using a water fountain, maybe just a bowl. If you can get anything that clips on the cage for his water it would be good as it stops him kicking it over! Luckily we had clip on water containers with our cats' carriers so were able to use one of them. If you know anyone who takes their cat to cat shows then they will have one & maybe prepared to lend it to you or tell you where they got it from. From the experience of our Roman in the crate be prepared for initial complaints - kicking over bowls/litter etc. (see this picture yourpetforums.co.uk/post/95175/thread and/or howling but he did settle. Hopefully Ringo will be more adaptable from the start. Good luck.
