had blood tests last Tuesday. She is drinking all day long and has lost weight (in June 3,7> now 3.2); Yesterday I heard that she has kidney failure. As she already has I/D she cannot have K/D, so the vet will try a nutritional supplement first to stabilize it. Hope she will eat it. She is terrible. The vets named her a terrorist. Get it on Monday. They think it strange that she eats three times as much as the other two together. She ought to eat less with kidney problems.

dutchkitties, Penny commiserates with Misty as she was diagnosed with kidney disease earlier this year as she had lost weight, was drinking more than normal & reduced eating. However she has had injections to improve her appetite, Ipakatin powder added to her food as a phosphate binder & Benazecare tablets as an ACE inhibitor (control of blood pressure & loss of protein in the urine). She's seems to have stabilised the weight loss so hope Misty does the same. However she has subsequently been found to have a goitre which indicates she also has hyperthyroidism which can mask some of the kidney problems & whilst causing weight loss the cat normally has an increased appetite. In Penny's case this is probably balancing out the kidney's reduced appetite! I hope the supplement helps Misty. That is a great photo of her drinking just sorry its in these circumstances. A couple of websites I've found useful icatcare.org/advice/cat-health/chronic-kidney-disease-cats-%E2%80%93-managementwww.felinecrf.org/

Just back from the vet with a bottle of Pronefa. Twice a day drops for a 3kg cat. No thyroid problem (so far). Problem is that doesn't like wet food. Level (?) is 276 and ought to be under 168. Does Penny understand that it is for the best?

Does Penny understand that it is for the best? dutchkitties - no she doesn't!!!! We've gone through all sorts of options to get her to take her tablets, currently crushed in some Applaws tuna! Even the vets are wary of trying to tablet her!!!! Luckily she does have moist as her equivalent of Pronefra is the Ipakatin powder to be mixed in food & we add more water to it. However she doesn't always eat it but not much we can do. Knowing there is a liquid version is useful as something to try if she really rejects eating her moist due to the powder. I Hope you can get Misty to take it, does it have to be in food or can you syringe it directly into her mouth?

No, she hasn't taken a drop. Then I got powder (ipakitine). She backs away. As she is constantly drinking I put a little in the water and emptied the other bowls. (the other two can drink outside) No way. Licking her lips and meowing. Cannot leave her without water so I had to obey. Go back to the vet on Monday, if possible. (Must have a vascular treatment today and I don't know how soon I recover)
