Yesterday we popped along to see Linda at her charity shop and in the course of our chat she asked if we'd want to foster a kitten, tortie & white, who was semi-feral? Of course Neil's eyes lit up at the thought of another cat - especially one who sounded a challenge I wasn't so sure ~ still felt quite raw after having to give Holly up ~ but they both convinced me as we chatted. WE arranged to pick her up this afternoon after Linda had closed the shop.
So today has been a day of getting the 4ft crate set up with litter tray, toys, beds etc and at 4.30pm we arrived at Linda's house. She had the six kittens (6!) sleeping in a crate in the kitchen but they had the run of the room as the floors are tiled. Apparently they were found by the local dog warden in a house that had too many cats and dogs in it The kittens apparently were all in a crate, no sign of the mother, and were ravishingly starving for food Linda has had them since Thursday and they've had a wee bit of diarrhoea but now it's easing on a bland diet of chicken and white fish. The 'feral' girl has actually been adopted by a couple who always take the 'stroppy' ones (just as Neil and I always go for the oldies) so instead Neil and I have taken a ginger boy and a tortie & white girl and christened them Nigel and Suzi The crate is just so they can be in a safe place and CLOSE to a litter tray so they suss out what it's for...they were using the tray ok at Linda's but this is a different litter
Linda reckons they are only around 6 weeks old and when I was about to put Nigel into the carrier I found, of all things, a blooming huge fat TICK on his tummy!!!!! I said we'd pop into the vet on our way home and get them to pull it off (as they did for Chilli) but when we got there they had closed at 5.30pm (it was now 6.10pm) so I had to get the O'Tom, read the instructions and pull the creepy thing off myself!!! Turned out to be really easy and I popped it into a small pot, took it out into the courtyard and squished it into oblivion How dare it suck MY baby's blood!!!!
Anyway....dinner is nearly ready so I'll leave you with some piccies....cos I know I'd get lynched if I didn't

Oh a ginger boy & a tortie girl , double trouble . Lovely looking kittens, have your 2 divas seen them yet @gillykat? Good luck with the taming & eventually finding them a home On a practical note have they been blood tested by the rescue?

Linda has got the spitty girl going to someone today and someone else is taking the other tortie and a ginger brother and that will leave Linda with a ginger brother & sister
Yes, Lily & Chilli HAVE seen them and *as expected* are Not Impressed Lily walked in, stopped in her tracks when she saw the crate was occupied (we'd left the empty crate open all afternoon for The Divas to examine ) and stared for about 30 seconds and then, head & tail low, slinked off down the stairs.
Neil said ''She's gone to snitch on us to Chilli'' and sure enough, within five minutes, Chilli walked in! She approached to within 3ft of the crate, had a good luck at the two kittens and, flicking her tail, walked into the kitchen and demanded food
I actually woke up at 4.30am this morning so, as I'm on early shift tomorrow morning I thought I may as well get up and get stuff done so by 9pm tonight I'll fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. I've just taken two chicken thighs out of the oven and that will be Nigel & Suzi's breakfast once they cool (not all at once obviously...I think one thigh is heavier than an actual kitten!!!). They're currently out of their crate and exploring the living room and are SO friendly. When you chirp to them they come running with teeny-tiny tails in the air and purrs like tiny mopeds I've already given them both a very gentle brush all over to get them on the road to accepting brushes (Lily loves it but Chilli doesn't) and I'll be giving Suzi's bottom a wash soon as she's still a tiny bit loose compared to her brother.
Both WILL be getting blood tested soon (as soon as they're old enough) and, as I said to Linda, if it's worst case scenario (FeLV ) then we'll just have to make what time they have a blooming good pampered-rotten one, won't we? Both Lily & Chilli are fully vaccinated against ALL the nasties and up to date with flea & worming treatments etc. As Linda said chances are they WON'T have anything nasty but after George & Suzi (yeah, we like the name a lot ) I'm VERY paranoid about FeLV.

Oh adorable! Such pretty kittens and the tortie is going to be long haired. I love them both. You lucky thing getting to foster kittens - can I swap my hubby for yours so I can foster kittens too?

They are both gorgeous. The pictures are great. Yes, you would have been lynched if you hadn't showed them.

Oh dear @gillykat the more I look at Nigel the more I see what our Roman must have been like as a kitten I'm not usually a kitten fan, lovely to look at but much prefer the slightly older cats (18 months +) I suppose rather like my view of children but Nigel could make me change my mind! Nigel has the the same white paws but can't see if he's got more white going up his back leg like Roman, the same split white bib but not the white nose & chin. Also a ginger tabby although I can't see if he's got the rattle snake tail (banded ginger & white/cream) that Roman has. Oh now what makes you think I want to see more photos I must admit if we didn't have the 4 we do, I'd be thinking seriously about Nigel I hope that Nigel also has the soft nature (at least with humans!) that Roman has as someone will get a really lovely, loving cat. That first picture of Suzi reminds me of another kitten pic I've seen, can't remember if it was on this or the previous forum, its not the dark nose but the rest & the pose that are niggling my memory. you'll have to post more pics to try & jog it further Hope the blood test turn out OK & your 2 come around as they did with Hattie at least Chilli didn't run back out the door!
