Here is the cat pen now:
The cat pen isn't big enough for 6 cats. The left part with the shed was added on when I had Kali and her 2 kittens. We are extending out to the edge of the slabs and then hubby is going to take off the door and side facing the camera. The side will be used to close off the right hand side of the pen so the cats will have the shed and the new part for a bit. Then all of the right hand side will be renewed as it's very tatty (8 years old). We will have a Perspex roof with a slant on it so that the rain will run off and the cats will also have lots of shelves. We are hoping to find part of an old tree trunk for the cats to climb on. Hopefully I can also persuade hubby to dig out the grass part on the right to make it a big square - if he doesn't at least he is finally doing the work needed after I have nagged him for about 3 years.

It's looking good now, but I can see how you want it to become. The perplex roof is important. Another three years till it will be finished?
I have a transparent perplex roof on the shed but it is discoloured and is yellow/brown now. Perhaps there is a spray or so to prevent this.

It'll look fantastic when it's done! Having a tree trunk in for them to climb on and strop their claws on is a fantastic idea - perhaps a local tree surgeon may have one you can have?

It's looking good now, but I can see how you want it to become. The perplex roof is important. Another three years till it will be finished? It looks okay on the photo but the right hand part of the pen is very tatty - the wood is rotting and Kiba-Khan has a hole in his best shelf! That part of the pen was made very cheaply with old pallets from work. We have bought 'proper wood' this time!! We were lucky enough to be given a roll of the strong mesh by a neighbour. The 'roof' is a nightmare at the moment as it is flat with only a tarpaulin for shelter - when it rains the water collects in the centre and we have to get it off before it makes the top collapse.
I hope it won't take another 3 years to finish!!!

With the nice weather coming hubby has no excuse not to get it all done! Luckily I have quite a big garden - only thing wrong with it is that it slopes upwards and also slopes up sideways too so we had to do some digging out for the pen originally.

Hubby has made a start and it looks so much bigger. Our neighbour next door down has a tree at the top of her garden that for some reason or other her gardener wants to chop down. I have asked her if I can have the trunk off it for the cats to climb on in their pen.

Not going well!! Only got the extension bit in place with the mesh attached to 2 sides. Yesterday hubby asked me to get the cats in early as he was going to shut of one side of the pen so he could finish the new bit. I left him to it and when I went out later on he had put a mesh panel up between the cat shed and the fence, cutting off the right hand side of the pen - to do this he cut out the mesh that was by the door and then put up a mesh panel. I heard miaowing and he had shut Toffee in the cat shed part and he was blocked in - I couldn't open the door of that part as the temporary panel that was fixed in place was too big and covered part of the door!! We had to pull up the mesh to make a space for Toffee to come out. Then I realised that hubby didn't get any cat beds or litter trays out of the cat shed plus he left the shed door wide open!!! men!!! I found lots of gaps in the mesh that the cats could get out from so had to tie wire all around it and block it as best as I could.
Toffee was not happy spending the night out in a cat kennel. When hubby got up this morning he decided he would take the mesh partition down for now!!! So, all that fussing for nothing and we are getting nowhere. He has pulled a musle in his shoulder and is in pain so I don't think anything will be done for a few days. I now can't lock the pen as the new bit on the front is in front of the locking part so it can only be closed. Then after hubby had taken the panel down I was putting the cats in the pen he decided to 'help' me and passed one cat in the pen. We turned around and there was Kiba-Khan walking up the garden - hubby had left the kitchen door and the living room door open! thank goodness we caught him and got the doors closed before the others were on the loose.
