So I thought I would start a new thread for the cats We have had some good news all round so felt a new post to keep the positivity flowing might be a good idea. First of all we have Sapphire. She is making small improvements, still very timid and very scared but coming out slowly. She is flea, worm and earmite free and has been fully vaccinated so thats a big plus. We are in the process of building up her body weight, still a good bit to go but hopefully we can get her spayed as soon as her weight is up. Poppy is worm and flea free and has had her first vaccination Second one is due in approx. 3 weeks time and around that time she will also be spayed and chipped. She is really affectionate. Bit wary of strangers at first but if you let her have a sniff of you she comes around within 5 minutes and purrs away while you pet her Shelby is now flea and worm free also. She had shown the same symptoms as the kittens and the vet is really happy with her. She is now completely free of the illness and is ready to be spayed and chipped. Shes had her first vaccination and the second one is due in 3 weeks. Will get new photos of the cats and post them. Poppy is doing really well despite what shes been through with the kittens all passing. Shes such a lovely wee soul and so beautiful. Photos really do not do justice on how gorgeous she is.

That's all good news, and such bonny cats too. I'm sure that when ready you'll have no problem finding them forever homes.

Glad to hear they are doing well & great photos pixiepops. How's Mittens doing? Mittens is still being very aggressive. She has started to come out of her hiding place though and walking around more but is still staying in her "safe place" a lot of the time. I really dont want to give up on her so I am trying all options, including the offer from another rescue who deal with feral and semi feral cats to try socialising and bringing her out of herself. It would be against her previous owners wishes, however, we need to think about what is best for Mittens and at the moment she is not happy being in a home with a foster. She would thrive, we feel, a lot more with her own pen and being given one to one specialist help (which this other rescue can offer). Our foster who has Mittens, although is very good with cats, has never dealt with a cat that is quite as aggressive as Mittens has been.

Oh that is a shame pixiepops, but I think you've got to consider what is best for an obviously stressed Mittens even if this is against the previous owners wishes, especially as you don't appear to be getting any further information from them. Of course it could well be just a case of her not coping well with not having her previous owner & now new surroundings. Don't know if she was moved from her own home when her owner had to go into care before you got her in which case 2 or more moves could well have an impact on her. I wonder why they didn't want her to go into a pen environment.

When we got her into care she had traveled from Birmingham to Glasgow, then on to our rescue in Fife. I had 5 rescues all in England who were a lot closer than ourselves who had bent over backwards to help and moved cats around and got cats re-homed sooner to their owners who were lined up than they normally do to ensure they had space to take her in. This woman refused point blank to give her to them.
We had been told she had 1 week to get the cat a new home or into rescue as she would then be put out by the landlord. We have since found out that she had longer than the 1 weeks to get her cat homed. The cat was allowed to stay in the property on her own and a neighbour was going in and out feeding the cat, giving her fresh water and clean litter etc until she could be taken in somewhere. So Mittens had been left on her own for a whole week with no company (other than a quick 10 minute visit by a neighbour throughout the day to feed her, water her and clean the tray).
All of that on top of the traveling and not being with her owner I think has just caused her to become so distressed she is lashing out, despite our best attempts to show her love and let her come round on her own time. We are trying our best but our best is sadly not good enough to help Mittens. I think we will need to have a long hard think, but I do believe she will be off to the other rescue as they are better equipped and have more staff/volunteers who are trained in dealing with aggressive cats and cats that have been in awful situations/conditions, so it would be the best place for her to go.
I have no idea why she did not want her to go into a pen. She was very vague about why, but from what we gathered from the conversation, her cat wouldnt cope with a pen environment. From what we have seen and what we know of her being with us, she would be more than happy in a pen environment, with one to one care where she has her own space and isnt around the fosters/volunteers all of the time and therefore would have more time to adjust and settle.

I agree that, that sounds like the best course of action for Mittens in the long run. Good luck with your decision, and let us know how you get on.

Poor Mittens - she must be so confused. It will take a while but I think she will eventually trust people again - hopefully with the rescue that deals more with aggressive and feral cats.

Good news Shelby has had some interest and has visitors tomorrow Sadly we never found her owners, so she was placed on the page as a cat who was being re-homed. She has her last vaccination this week and is being spayed and chipped the following week So once she has the all clear, she is ready to go to a new home Fingers crossed she is on her best behaviour for her potential new pawrents!!
